Exhaust Cat screw removal

Hello all,

I have an 08 US Brutale 910r, with the one piece cat and headers. To remove the front part of the exhaust, there is a hex screw that screws into a round, washer-like thing with flattened sides. Besides ordering the special tool part (which I believe is part 8000B2051), how have others gone about removing this screw? Thanks in advance!

-Aero out.

That device is a pin-capture device. The outer "flats" can be held with any open end wrench of appropriate size. Use a hex key to turn the inner "bolt". As the bolt backs out, the pin will withdraw from the cat hanger and, when you have undone both of them...yes, there's one on each side...the cat and exhaust header will drop free. You can work the headers past the oil cooler if you have removed its retaining system. No need to remove the radiator....

The outer "nut" device is captured within the frame by a cir-clip visible from the back.

And be careful not to push your fans into the radiator if you don't loosen its mounts. Tight squeeze getting a wrench in there to remove the flange holding the headers into the exhaust ports.

Bend a fan mount just a bit and a blade will rub the radiator whilst turning and eventually create a pin hole leak....Ask me how I know!!!

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.
