Gear Problem

I have noticed that when I am in 2nd or 3rd gear, and i shift up a gear but lightly (shoe doesn't grip always) the bike goes into neutral and there is a clinging sound (chain has no tentsion?), but this only happens when i don't push up on the lever hard enough or normal, only if its very gentle and not all the time.
Any info or similar problem? or is it normal from the trans to do this?
From what i know, MV has one of the best trans out it just my bike or?

Wink false neutral?

MVs have fabulous gear boxes.....
you have to firmly push the lever, all the way in one smooth motion
I only use the clutch for launch and getting into neutral
