Buying an 06 910 Brutale and need some advice

Hi everybody.... I've owned about everything at one time or another but never an MV. I have a chance to buy a an 06 Brutale for around $6,000.00 with 300 miles. Do you all have any info on smaller licence plate holders and exausts? I like the short style R6ish low style. And... do they ever come up for sale used? Pretty pricy new. Also are there any common problems with these I should be aware of or look out for? Thanks, Steve

Check with motovation, one of our sponsors, for the tail tidy. $69 I think. Sometimes the Arrow shortys come up for sale; it is not a regular item.

The only common problem is the spu. That is the box under the fuses on the right side of the bike. Symptoms are electrical gremlins such as blinkers not working properly, bike not shutting off, headlight staying on after the key is removed. It is an expensive part if you need to replace it.

I just bought an 06 a few months back and there were a couple of things that I should have checked but didn't, only to find out about the later. First off, check the locks. Make sure you can cycle through all the key positions smoothly without any jiggling. Also check the headlamp - the silicone the factory uses tends to dry out and the glass can just fall out on the road. Tug on the glass and make sure it's snug.

And of course the obvious - inspect the chain, check the fork tubes for leaking seals, maybe smell the oil if the owner doesn't mind opening the plug, etc..

Best of success with your purchase @slangbuster, buy it because you love it, don't buy it if you're looking for a euro version of a jappa, yep the guys have highlighted the key issues - but they're not terminal and good maintenance will see many many years of outstanding riding and passion.

Cheers

The license plate hoder for the Ducati ST3 is a direct bolt on replacement. It will give you a small license plate holder. I have it on my 07 910R.

Hi Slangbuster,

Don't worry, check the bike on the points indicated by the guys above and you will end up with an absolutely great musclebike for relatively little money. As to the plate holder, in our opinion the Melotti PT61 is definitely the one to have!

Check my pic for the Arrow Thunder Full Inox System installed. I picked mine up new via eBay at a fairly reasonable price. I have seen them very occasionally selling used here and on eBay, but it will take a bit of dedication to search each week to see if they come up.

Enjoy...
