only new to the forum.
looking at getting a Brutale and have seen a 989R but can't seem to find much info on it.
was it a bit of an orphan model?
where does it sit in relation to 910, 1078 etc?
are parts going to be hard to get?
what things go wrong with them?

Hi icbfc,
do a search on ruined 40th birthday, i believe the owner has a 989R and had a lot of gearbox troubles, i would play safe and get yourself a 1078RR best of the old style Brute without doubt except, for my 910R!!!

@Jack, he's got a 990R.

Don't be afraid about the 989R. Its a very good bike and all the main parts are the same as from the 910-1078 models, but if you want it for the race track... take the 1078RR .

regards Jiri

i have a 989r - i understand it was the (minimally) facelifted 910 but was only out for a short while before the new 990 came out ? i have done 3000 miles of riding and touring in the last 12 months through rain and worse and to be fair the bikes been pretty reliable. few times it has cut out when de accelerating from high speeds, it is horrendous on fuel (as they all are!!) but a fantastic piece of fun italian machinery that makes me grin every time i get on it -
