Noise at high rpm normal?

At about 6000 and above there seems to be a new kinda high pitched rattle coming from the top of the motor. Is this normal?

ummm, what should I listen for? I'm assuming a loud clunk, then silence and a locked rear tire equals bad.

if its just a change in the tone of the engine that is normal i find around 6-7 rpm the pitch of the engine changes and it changes to an even higher tone around 10k rpm.

I didn't notice it until I road without a helmet and could hear better, it is basically a new sound that only happens above 6k, oil is new, full and synthetic, bike has 2k miles so not expecting mechanical failure, just checking.

Might be the mirrors vibrating. Mine used to do that and it sounded like the engine. Easy test, take them off and go for a spin see if you still notice the sound.

Not too clever, but yes, without a helmet on things do sound much worse, I went out once without earplugs in an crapped myself when I heard all the mechanical noise and the sound of the knee sliders on the ground.

Just a block to the gas station and a quick afternoon spin to dry off after a wash and shine. Other than that, the helmet is on.
