1090 sport exhaust

Hi guys

After a bit of deliberation and debate about whether or not the stubby corse exhaust comes with a db killer (It does) I have taken the plunge and ordered one from Gabriele at evolution. (Top guy) The big question now is do I attempt to fit it myself or should I take it to a dealer. I'm not a duffer but I'm not a trained technician either. Does anyone have a basic how to guide on this job or can anyone point me in the right direction. I've searched the forums but not got much info. The system comes with the sport ecu, again I've never changed one so any help on this would be appreciated. Gabriele said something about resetting the potentiometer to zero, it was at that point I mentally switched off and decided its probably a dealer fit job but again it may be simple thing.

ECU change requires tank removal, connectors and things not too difficult but I you don't trust yourself don't start. Exhaust is easy slip on.

Exhaust is the full system so the headers and cat all have to be removed. Removing the tank and a few plugs doesn't faze me but I'm not sure if I will need to remove radiator etc as there doesn't seem to be much room to play with at the front

Yep...you will need to move the radiator (don't necessarily have to take it completely off).
Since the new ECU will need to have the TPS set which requires the diagnostic software, I would suggest you take it the MV specialist. It should not cost all that much, as it is a pretty straight forward job if you have the tools and know how. Maybe an hour's work.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

I can change headers with out touching the radiator, just being lazy.

Don't really understand what the TPS is or does but if it requires special software then the decision is pretty much made for me.

Yeah...I was lazy, too...see my thread about the radiator leak that resulted 5000 miles later from the fans rubbing. Seems my hands had bent them into the radiator as I wrestled with the wrenches. The fans still worked fine, but the plastic outer ring slowly wore a hole in the aluminum.

I'll move the rad next time.

Exhaust system replacement

The MV Agusta Corse "shorty" exhaust system I ordered is being shipped to me, as I write this. The logistics get in the way just a bit, as I'm a snowbird in the Seattle area, the bike is with me, now, and in the winter I'm in the South West. So the exhaust and my dealer are in Tucson.

I intend to install the system myself.

Eraldo Ferracci is vetting the instructions in English and his work should be done later this week. Then I will know exactly what needs to be done. However, in reviewing the 1090RR Factory Workshop manuals (chassis & engine), one is directed to remove some of the fasteners on the radiator and allow the bottom of the radiator to swing away from the headers. You will also need to remove some of the hardware for the exhaust system butterfly controller and cabling.

Additionally, my dealer in Tucson has told me I'll have to make a change on the TPS (throttle position sensor) {a potentiometer used to tell the ECU the mechanical position of the throttle butterfly shaft}.

While I've set TPS values on BMW boxers in the past, I suspect I'll be trucking the Brutale over to my Seattle area dealer and let them make the adjustment. The risk/reward ratio is not in my favor with this engine.

In my case, adding this exhaust will become a cooperative effort with me doing some of the work, and the local MV Agusta dealer tweaking my efforts.
