Which Bike

Hi Guys

Probably sick of answering this one but I'm looking at trading in my KTM RC8 for a Brutale but confused on which one to get.....
1078rr, 990s, 1090rr, 910s

What are the differences and which one is most livable with. I ride "Spirited" tour once a year and have the odd weekend away on the bike. I'm only 5'8" tall so I dont think any of the models will feel too cramped but in some reports they slag off the pre 2010 models saying they're uncomfortable over long distance and a nightmare round town.

Does anyone do a screen for the 2010 models and what are my luggage options.

Is the 2010 that much different and is it worth paying the whopping 13650 price tag.

Hi Flushman - welcome

Why do you want to get rid of the RC8 and replace with the Brutale? - What riding are you going to use the Brutale for...and is the whopping price tag an infuencer?

The RC8 has broken down for varying reasons three times in as many months, couple that with the riding position which used to suit when I was younger but not so much these days and I have just fallen out of love with the bike. I owned a Tuono up untill Sept last year which I chopped in for the RC8, Big mistake. I used to love the power and character of the Tuono and I could ride all day with no aches and pains. I dont want to go back to the Tuono but I'm looking for a similar type of ride.

I get out most weekends around Derbyshire and away once a year for a week round Europe.

I'm tempted by the 1078rr which is being hevily discounted now but not sure about the fueling, although getting off a lumpy twin I doubt it will be a problem.

What are your thougths?

I've been going through the same dilema and also fancy a change from ktm although a 950 smr however i tested the rc8r 2 weeks back and wouln't buy one due to the riding position .

i also ride around derbyshire and live in derby.

i have (had) decided on the 1090rr but am being put off by isurance costs and demands ( see my threads )

if it helps , i have ridden the 910r , 990r and the 1090rr and the new bikes are alot more comfier and user friendly and the 990 is more than fast enough , the reasons i want the 1090 are the two tone paint , wheels and red cam covers, may see what deal i can get on the 990 now as i refuse to pay more than double the insurance for the 1090 or fit an alarm which from what i;ve read can have minds of there own .

I have an RC8 and haven't had any issues whatsoever for a sport bike it is very comfortable. Again for a sportbike

I got a brutale because I want a naked strreetfighter which would be reasonably more comfortable and maintain the sportiness. And I wanted one of my bikes to have more than two cylinders. J/k.

I have to say, to this point, the RC8 is my favorite bike. Of course I have never ridden my new Brutale and I am short the improved ergos will have it scoring highly.

I considered a new 990 to keep my budget happy. Although if that isn't an issue the extra money gets you more than the engine displacement. Thus if I had the cash it would be the 1090.

For what it's worth as an opinion only

If I was commuting every day and enjoying the weekends = 990 (more useable power)
If it was just weekend, bi-annual rides and the odd track day = 1078 (too crazy for day-to-day)
Would not take a 910s unless it was ridiculously cheap (maybe an 910r at a push)
If money was no object and I wasn't commuting on it = 1090

The decision is getting harder by the day.

Have now been offered a 1078rr one year old with 1000 miles on the clock, first service out of the way and all for 9500. I know the 1078 has a reputation for being a beast but I cant imagine its any more lively than the RC8 or the Tuono.

So these are now my options.

1090rr 13,500......Nice bike smoother more user friendly.
990rr 11,500......Softer version, probably lose money faster.
1078rr 9,500.......Mental version but older model. Although with the 4 grand I'd save I could probably smooth it out with a PCIII, Throttle cam etc.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????
