Brutale 750S Very Rich Fuelling

Hi guys,

so I got a Brutale 750S from 2004 which I bought two years ago with low mileage and I am not happy with the fuelling.
In general when driving it feels powerful and very good but last weekend I changed bikes with my brother so I was driving behind my own bike and I got a good taste of what comes out of the MV tailpipe:

With wide open throttle it literally emits clouds of smoke and unburned fuel which I don't like.
In part load it is okay however. On one fuel tank I can make ~180...200km.

The previous owner who got the bike new back then told me that the MV dealer who did the first service removed the catalyst and replaced the Eprom as with the stock Eprom fuel consumption was ridiculously high above 10 liters / 100 kilometers and it didn't run very well either.

Now I mean it runs okay but with the mixture being so rich in WOT it is bad for performance, bad for lubrication and annoying for bikers following me.

So my question is do you know what Eprom is available out there for a stock 750S engine with the catalyst removed which will work fine?
I see a stock MV Eprom at Startwintrading is ~50€ but I'm afraid it contains the calibration the bike was running on when it was new (fuel consumption >10l/100km, poorly running)

Any ideas and experience from you are very much appreciated!

@Georg: Contact member merc07. He works wonders with the early EPROMS. The ECU for you bike should be a Magneti Marelli 1.6M.

Read this: https://www.mvagusta.net/forum/21-cu...-software.html

The service manal for your bike says the ECU is Weber-Marelli 1.6M

Good luck with the fueling. Adam should get you well sorted.

One of the problems with the 16M ECU is that 2 injectors (and 2 spark plugs) fire at the same time...they fire in pairs.

The waste ignition spark is no big deal (Japanese and other 4 cylinder bikes used twin lead coils for decades), but the waste injector spray means the injectors squirt fuel against a closed intake valve every other stroke.

This waste spray makes getting the fueling right a bit tricky. Also explains the poor fuel mileage. The early MVs with the 16M all tend to run a bit rich and riders behind have complained about the smell of fuel since day one.

The only really proper fix is a new ECU with sequential injection. Chris at XBikes can fix you up a Microtec with a harness adapter that totally transforms the bike. Only problem is the cost !! But well worth it if you can afford it.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

have you looked at the ECU and checked were the co adjustment screw is it might be set to rich should be 3-4 % setting is 3.5% co
my 910s runs at 3.2% it dose not like it when it is rich it cuts out at traffic lights ect its worth a look you also have to set this when you put a new chip in the ecu.

Be very careful with that CO adjustment screw, it is not designed to spin 360*. It has stops on either end of the adjustment that can be broken if you are ham-handed.

Where are you measuring CO ? If with a tailpipe probe you can get a false lean reading. Probe must be inserted a long way to get an accurate reading.
