I had my dashboard crack all the way through, when parked. I haven’t been able to ride it due to an injury. I pulled the cover off of the bike and the dash cracked all the way from the right side buttons all the way through the screen.
Anyone experience this?
I also went to my dealer and they said the 2014 dash has been discontinued. Anyone ever put a 2015 dash on a 2014?
I read this as a fabric bike cover over the whole bike. Pending Goreela's confirmation, I think the bike has been parked outside and has suffered temperature cracking, ie hot sun, cool evening.:frown2:
Sorry to hear that!
I had a similar thing happen to my bike! It was parked in a secured bicycle shed and some idiot threw a single mattress on top of the whole bike (I found the mattress resting against the wall and sitting on my bike). As a result the screen buckled and bashed the dashboard. The impact caused a few of the areas around the dash to crack. I don't think it was a malicious action, more of a lack of care coupled with idiocy.
I have since done a track day and luckily the cracks have not increased.
To me it sounds like someone has dropped something accidentally over your screen. Have you checked your screen for marks?
No evidence of that. No damage anywhere else and the crack starts at the bottom right. Hard to get anything in that area to hit it hard enough and not damage anything else
My theory is I don’t know, but if you’re dexterous enough to hit the bottom right hand corner of the dash hard enough to leave a half inch crack and not hit anything around it, including the carbon fiber fairing stay that would easily show scratches in the clear coat, feel free to demonstrate on your bike.
If not, then the only answer I have is it cracked due to weather.
Since this thing got sidetracked into people calling bullshit for ZERO reason, I’m posting some pics. In the pics you can clearly see the massive amounts of damage around the dashboard. Those are probably where the Orcs attacked first. Then, when Syrian forces attacked Santa Clara they fucked up the entire upper fairing. It was just brutal!
If anyone was wondering about my original question, 2015 and up dashes will work on earlier model years
To me that looks VERY much like some hard object hit the Dash in the area indicated here in red:
Perhaps something fell on the bike while in storage? I had the tank cover damaged on my Ducati damaged by a dropped paddock stand THROUGH the two covers over it. Only noticed it when I unpacked the bike in spring.
I Challenged the other guy using the storage space, and he admitted dropping the Paddock stand on my bike .. Could the same sort of thing have happened? I very much doubt a case of "Freeze-damage" unless water had gotten in to the Dash and expanded during freezing. (Could water have been "left" in there from washing before storage?)
Oh .. and where is the bolt missing from the Carbon fairing stay?
I know it looks like impact damage, but the dash is buried so deep it would be impossible to hit it that hard and not leave a trace anywhere else. If it were an impact, based on the pattern of the crack, it would’ve had to come from the side. That’s why I took pics of the area around it.
Like I said to the other guy, look at your dash and try to figure out how you could hit it hard enough to do that.
The bike was under a locked cover that was stretched by the mirrors
You seem to be a bit defensive here. Several people independently suggested this was impact damage and you offhandedly discount that as impossible.
You state this: "Since this thing got sidetracked into people calling bullshit for ZERO reason, I’m posting some pics." after i asked you to post some quality pictures. This is not endearing. No one called BS to your post...we just all want to definitively know what happened. I was beginning to think you were a very young person until you comments about racing and the industry. Now I am just curious about your diagnostic capabilities and forensic experience.
California you say? Inside a garage you say? Under a locked and stretched cover you say? That must have been one hell of a temperature swing. I would have expected Plastic Deformation to occur long before Fracture with Cracking Failure. Perhaps you did have a localized intense heat event that caused Chain Scission followed by that entire area exceeding its Critical Stress Intensity Factor.....
I once loaded a very nice 2008 MV Agusta F4 312R into an enclosed trailer. The bike was well secured and well away from any impact areas. When we opened the trailer after a half-day drive, a brand new Moto Corse Titanium windscreen was shattered. Hmm, there was no other obvious impact damage and that windscreen is Polycarbonate...much like your dash cover. As you know, the windscreen cannot be impacted from the sides in any meaningful way without first impacting the mirrors. It was obviously a side impact due to the nature and location of the cracking.
After we ruled out anything we could imagine except that it must have impacted the trailer wall, someone recalled that the driver had jumped a curb pulling out of a gas station causing the trailer to lurch. Our conclusion was that the mirror also impacted the side of the trailer causing the load to transfer to the windscreen in a way that snapped the screen. There was no damage or evidence of that on the mirror.
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, stated by Sherlock Holmes.
I can be a bit of a snot when someone simply decides that the recommendations of several very knowledgeable people, also with years of industry experience, are told that they are somehow dissing your superior intellect and capabilities.
I can't believe everyone is still trying to figure out what caused the damage.
Meanwhile, @Goreela is seeking advice on whether a 2015 instrument may or may not work on earlier F3 models?
You have asked our opinion and you got it.
I am the only person here with exactly the same issue as yours and it was definitely due to impact (the evidence was still on the bike when I got to it). No visible marks were found around the dash nor the slightest crack of paint on the front fairing or on the screen around the dash in my case either.
I seriously doubt that yours cracked due to extreme temperature fluctuations.
Agree. After seeing the photos I accept my initial diagnosis was wrong. It's such a brutal crack. And with that in mind, if it had been caused by accident, most would simply remove any evidence of the cause. Shame, but true.:frown2:
This is so funny. But the same thing happened to me as well. Same crack at the same exact spot but mine is a bit smaller than yours. Bike has been parked in the garage and have ridden in almost 2 weeks and since then it hasn’t been taken out no touched. Makes no sense. Rest of the bike spotless
