Is my engine done?

F3 675 2013

I was riding today and during my ride I first notice a drop in power.

So slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road. I waited for a bit then decided to drive it home slowly. I turned the bike on a started gently going down the hill and noticed the sound of a quick repetitive noise, so I immediately stopped a turned of my bike.

I got it towed and the tow guy was an engine enthusiast so he asked to hear my engine turned on briefly. He said it sounded like the Rods were loose in the engine.

So what do you think? A significant loss of power, but the bike still runs and the sounds from the engine rods- How bad is this scenario?

Hard to say but given the fact this year and model is known to have valve problems, it could be a broken valve? Let us know what you find out.

My 2014 F3 675 just dropped a valve but would not start.
How many miles on your bike?
Maybe you spun a bearing but that can still be a big problem.

Based on the what you described I'd bet you dropped a valve. My 2015 F3 still ran and started despite a damaged valve.
Sorry to hear about your problems.

Is yours an 800 or 675?

Truthfully I'm not sure.
But from what I have read it's mostly the F3 675's.

Hi!

Sorry to hear about this.
While I was delivering my Rivale this weekend for its 12k service (which includes valve clearance check) and the proprietor and I were on the subject of valves: He mentioned that he's had a particularly difficult customer (unsurprisingly) with an early F3675, bought new at his shop, with... a dropped valve.
For his trouble he was promised a replacement engine, since the problem was well recognized at MV. Apparently a whole series of 675 heads were defective due to a valve guide machining tool defect.
After waiting 2-3 months for a replacement engine to arrive, apparently this chap sent a letter to Castiglione regarding his displeasure. This has apparently resulted in a new replacement F3 800(!) coming his way.
While this is a great story about turning catastrophe into (sort of) success, illustrating the pitfalls and flexibility of a small company, it made me wonder: if fault and tooling have been identified, so should the affected series of engines, = issue of recall and production of replacement engines or parts? Rather than waiting for irate & miserable customers to start calling in? Just a thought...
anyway, not sure that you'll get an 800 out of it but I'm sure you'll get the help you need!
