Buying a secon hand 2013 brutale 800

Hey guys ive been planning to buy a second hand 2013 brutale 800 with 6000kms in odometer regardless of the price. Im a newbie rider. Any tips or what to check before buying the bike. Ive read about the throttle response issue is it worth buying?

There are several issues you will need to check. They can all be sorted. What worries me is the newbie rider thing. These are quick bikes.

Yep - without wanting to be condescending, I had a friend come back to biking (so not even a total newbie) buy a Dragster 800 and he feels it's silly quick.

If you're dead set on one - check starting, the standard batteries are rubbish and can lead to issues with the sprag clutch (and it's been redesigned - check if it's had a replacement unit) If it isn't quick to start, or makes odd noises on the starter, be wary. Other things are usually sorted by the regular map updates - check it's been serviced at an MV dealer to ensure it's got the latest fuelling map, as these aren't released to non-dealers.

Also important is where are you based, where are you buying it from and how close are you to a *good* MV service agent/dealer. The bikes are fine if they are fettled properly by someone who knows them - it's just a motorcycle, but it's an idiosyncratic one with odd things that don't tend to pop up on Japanese stuff, so someone who knows them is the difference between an intensely frustrating ownership experience and a relatively straightforward one.
