Do I pay the extra for a R 312

Hello to you all,

I am new to your site, but I have been viewing for a while researching my F4 v's 1098 dilemma. After riding both 1000 S and 1098, I decided on taking a 1098s that I was lucky to be offered and is due to be delivered in June. But my heart keeps bringing me back to the F4.

I am 95% sure that I will let the 1098 pass (also it is red and I really wanted black which I can't get until 2008). The Ducati dealer will not have any problem placing it.

I spoke to the MV dealer today and he can obtain a black mono 1000R or a black biposto R 312. My current bike is a Triumph Thruxton 900 (please don't laugh), so either of the three mentioned will be an enormous step up for me. Is it worth paying the extra for the 312?

Thanks for your help.

Broms.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Please, do not compare the F4 with the 1098 !!! Only one thing is the same: both are sport bikes.
About the 312:
> Master Bike winner 2007
Watch, touch, feel and ride it. You will forget the 1098 in a few seconds.

Yes, sorry Patrick, I didn't intend to start another 1098 v F4 discussion. I'm sure it has been well covered previously on your forums.

But given that there are a couple of brand new 1000R's available, I am really interested in knowing if you all think the R312 is worth the extra dollars?

My understanding is that it has different heads with Ti valves and the result is slightly more hp....and of course, winner Masterbike 2007.

No problem Broms.

The 312R is exactly the same as the R with 8hp more, that it.
For the bikers that need the extra HP, go for the 312R
Extra Dollars > How much more ?

You know Greg, I like Ducati. I still own a 998S. I also worked for Ducati.
I speak only for the 1098 and not about the previous models.
To expound my reasons will be a pain for you with my poor English
To make it very short:
> Disappointment about the power with bigger engine+ALL that technology !
The 312R has the most simple injection system. One butterfly, one injector.
> The finish vs. previous models
> The design. Losing Italian identity
> Much more difficult to use the potential of the bike
> The brakes are crazy for street use. It can be even dangerous.
I know that the 1098 is a good bike but.....

I know that the 1098 is a good bike but.....
i appreciate your thoughts...
i like the F4 better than the 1098 as well

the funny thing about those brakes on the 1098.... and i have ridden one
the are NO stronger than the ones on my 910R (not true monoblocks)
but......
they ARE more dangerous
because there is NO MODULATION at all....
the first 2 inches of lever travel yields NO braking, whatsoever....
then.....
it's like you hit a brick wall
the brakes on my 910R have MUCH MORE "FEEL" to them
