WTF! New Mirror Fits But Old Bolts Do Not - What's Up With That?

Anyone else have this issue?

I had to replace my left side mirror so I ordered one from Pro Italia on 06/24/13 and it was delivered yesterday 07/03/13.

The mirror looked & also fitted identically to the original OEM mirror.

However, when I attempted to complete the install by screwing in the original two bolts I could not because these original bolts were not the correct size. They were larger than what was required for the new mirror.

I went back and looked in the box the mirror came in but there was no hardware provided. This being the case I just determined that I was to use the original existing two bolts I pulled of the damaged mirror.

So I called Pro Italia, specifically the Internet Sales Department, and spoke with a very nice woman, Jo Jo. She contacted one of their Technical Specialists (as she vaguely remembers this issue occurring before). A nice guy named Fred came on the line and I went over the issue with him but all Fred could do was explain that I either had to go to a hardware store and try to fit a new bolt, or at least find the correct size so it could be determined was the size should be or if that failed I could order and have two new bolts sent and they cost $10.00 each.

Fred determined that MV must have changed the sizing of the bolts for these mirrors.

The way we left things was I would try and size and hopefully find a new set of bolts to fit and replace the OEM one or I would call them back after the holiday (today) and try and work things out from there.

The sizing of the bolts Feed gave me was 6MX11mm.

I did go to the local Home Depot but had no luck & all of the stores will be closed today (I think) because it is July 4th.

The parts catalog for a MY 2010 F4 Black 1000S shows the bolts in the F0 Section, item 2 (MV Agusta OEM REAR MIRROR, LEFT SIDE, BLACK), item 8 (MV Agusta OEM SCREW, M6x11,7x25 RP), and item 9 (MV Agusta OEM WASHER, D12xD6,1xE0,7).

I guess I should have also ordered the bolts (as I figured the original OEM ones would work), but did not. And because of this one simple mistake my bike doesn't have a mirror. Oh I can still ride her but it looks like crap.

The interesting thing though is I would have thought the original bolts would still fit OR (for a mirror costing over $300 MV would have supplied the two bolts .... guess not).

I plan on calling Pro Italia back tomorrow and ordering the two bolts. I hope these fit.

** It's always something. Isn't it. **

UPDATE: I just went ahead and ordered a new set of washers and bolts. I used the points I received from Pro Italia in my original order so it actually cost me nothing to purchase the items (except I lost all my Pro Italia Points .... oh well). I just hope these new bolts fit .... else I'll be severely PISSED.

Couple of bolts...you'll be right. Don't lose sleep.

Try munting F4 big end bearings, rods 'n' crankshaft
It could be worse !

I would be curious as to how bolts with a narrower shaft will have threads to match what exists.

Home Depot stinks for metric stuff. I've had better luck at Ace hardware and bicycle shops when in a bind. You could always just get Ti equivalents for cheaper. (probably quicker too) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Titanium-M6x...item1c2ab9ca10

The M6 were to big when I tried the other day.

I'll give the M8 versions a try later and let y'all know.

Thanks for the info.

M8 will be bigger than M6.

m2, m2.5, m3, m3.5, m4, m5, m6, m7, m8, m9, m10, etc.......

As mentioned before, locally your best bet will be Ace Hardware. However, if you have an odd sized bolt (like most Agusta bolts are) then you'll have a tough time finding anything. If you can bring the part into a bolt supply place they should have a way to get the threaded hole size for you. I have lots of MV bolts laying around so if you find the exact size you need just PM it to me and i'll go dig around to see if i have any to send ya.

Wink how big?

M8s hold the rear set brackets on
M6s hold the throttle together
M5s hold the handlebar switches together

if the M6s were too big, take,1 of the throttle screws out and try it, you'll need a #2 Phillips screwdriver

That is strange because I replaced my right mirror about six months ago and I had no issues using the old bolts. I do hate the stupid blinker plug they stuff in the hole.
