Suspension Setting for 2010 F4..What is "Standard"?

Guys,

I have a 2010 F4 1000 and am a bit confused about the suspension settings described in the owner’s manual. Here is what the fold-out attachment in the back of the book says:


Front fork spring preload = 2 turns
Front fork rebound damping = 14 clicks
Front fork compression damping = 14 clicks
Rear shock compression damping = 14 clicks
Rear shock rebound damping = 16 clicks
Rear shock compression damping (low speed) = 18 clicks
Steering damper = 2 clicks


Now, my question is….are these the settings to achieve a “factory standard setting” or are they the full range of adjustment and to obtain a midpoint I would just divide everything by two? In other words, if the manual says “18 clicks” I would then gently turn the screw in until it stops and then back it out 9 clicks to set it into the middle of the adjustment range?

In fact, since I am 200 pounds when fully suited up for riding, what would a good baseline suspension setting be for my weight and riding style…which is mostly freeway and secondary roads that are wide and in good repair? No track days for me (yet) and very little in-town riding.

Those are baseline generic settings. You have to tune from there. Experiment with the settings one at a time to get the feel for what they do. You can narrow it down from there.

I got mine. Boy do I ever got mine.

Sort of confused...

Are these settings the full range of available suspension adjustment or are they the "halfway" settings?

In my case, the 2010 F4 was a demo unit I got with 400 miles on it and do not know if anyone adjusted the settings before I bought it. Thus, I am trying to sort out what the "normal" settings are as it would come NIB from the factory...and then return it to those specs before I start tuning it for myself.

You turn all the knobs full in, so clockwise till they stop. Than you rotate them left/counter-clockwise and count the clicks till you reach the number in the book.

The counting for high-speed compression damping on the rear shock is rotated. You rotate the knob fully out/counter-clockwise and than start rotating it clockwise and count the clicks as per manual.

At the front-one fork is compression, one is rebound. Take a look which is which, it says C on one, and R one other.

These numbers are ''standard settings'', full range is larger.
