Unhappy Need some Help/advice

About a week back I put a clear alternatives tail light kit in and wired the turn signals in... I had this kit before so I knew what to do. They had put the wrong diodes in on the right turn signal; instead of a yellow flash it is red. This was on a friday afternoon so I decided to say screw it and call them on Monday. I left the kit in because I figured it would still do the job and I really don't use turn signals.

So here's my issue.
I noticed a few days later that my tach wasn't smooth when the bike was under load... When I mean not smooth, I mean it is fluttering around under acceleration. Performance wise the bike feels fine and if it were missing like that I would have felt something. My first thought was maybe it was heat related as it was hot out, like +90 plus degrees. I let it cool of and rode again and sure enough the same thing happened. Now I'm leaning towards that tail light. I took it off and am now waiting for it's replacement. One of my questions is, could that have been culprit? It just seems odd that the tail light could affect the instrument cluster.

Another more ugly question (I'll explain) is does anyone know what grade stainless steel is used on our stock exhausts? I ask this because I noticed that right behind one of the nice tips on the exhaust I have a line crack/hole that is letting exhaust hit my tag... Don't ask me how that happened, I have not a clue... I don't remember jumping the bike. As luck would have it I am going to school for welding and have had plenty of TIG welding experience on SS. I'm thinking it is 304, but I want to be sure before I fix it.
