Radar Detectors?

Just curious if any F4 owners out there have installed a radar detector and what your thoughts are on suitable products available etc. Any experience you might have had would be a great as i have recently had a bad run radar traps. Think i will have one installed while i am off the road for 4 months! haha

I have a V1 installed and have mounted a wireless device on the helmet

There are a few posts in here as hot to do it. I can only touch my bikes to clean them so cant help you on how to install it, but can tell you it works great, specially when riding on back roads that you know there is nothing out there, so when you see the red light inside the helmet it is almost sure a radar

Save your money

Some info on radar detectors from a motor cop! The only time a radar detector comes in handy is if you come across a cop using an active, constant radar which is usually your state patrol. the hand held radar guns will not be detected until the officer pulls the trigger (which is too late). A cop uses the radar gun to confirm his visual estimate speed, which means by the time your detecter goes beep...the officer already has your speed locked on his gun.

As for the jammer, they are illegal. But they don't always work that great either. If its a standard radar gun, they should do a fine job. If the cop has a LIDAR or laser radar gun it will only work if the laser hits where your jammer is...the laser usually wins on this one!

I ride a Honda 1300st all day and write about 10-30 speed tickets a day, not for fun...b/c its my job and it lowers the accident/fatality rate! My only point is to save your money on the detectors/jammers...we all know where its safe to turn up the speed!

I got a $300 fine for speeding on a road with two empty lanes, no adjacent footpath, just shrubs and stuff, at about 2pm while the kids are at school. I think to myself, why are the cops even here on this one twisty piece of road which quite clearly has an out-of-date or unreasonably low speed limit?

I can only think its so that they can rake some money in off some generally very law abiding citizens who won't appeal, evade arrest, or give them any abuse. - ie the motorist. I was doomed the moment they heard my motorcyle coming up the hill at about 20% over the speed limit.

Get a radar jammer. its money well spent.

What makes me even more bitter is that I read in the paper that someone got fined $300 for assault. So I got the same fine for speeding as I would have done for randomly punching someone in the face.

The government down here has just made it quite plain in the new budget that they are going to raise millions more in revenue through speeding fines in the coming year!

Bunch of bastards!!

Certainly just revenue raising down here in Tassie!

The only way we can stuff them up is by not speeding, just do it on the 'out back' roads which are dozens of miles from nowhere!

I just give mine a quick squirt even in the city to keep my appetite for 'need for speed' at bay!!! Few hundred metres (or less!) when I can clearly see the road clear ahead etc etc!!

Yes 900$ fine which is more than double what i would have received before December last year! as has been said i see people in the paper getting lower fines for violent crimes and aggravated assaults. So Gazman your old F4 is about to hit 50,000kms. Gotta say all in all i'm pretty happy with it. Are you going to venture into the 2010 F4?

Mr.F4 I have a Bell STi mounted under the fairing and an earpiece in the helmet and it is fantastic and is undetectable,"BUT" like gtedeschi says no good for Laser guns, also it is not waterproof so if it rains I have to take it off,I got mine from western australia so if you want their website for more info PM me, they have a good range of accessories designed for motorcycles,Mitch.

Got a friend of mine who has a jammer in his Nissan GT-R and works great. He had many times told me cops pointed at him above the limit and never stoped him for speeding. The main issues with that are that they are expensive and that you cant just remove them from one vehicle to another like a normal radar detector. So you end up paying 1,000 bucks for something that you can only use in one vehicle.
