Stuffed in France (radiator no. 2)

Here I am on my annual tour of France, and my radiator has gone again. 300 miles to Calais and plenty of bottles of water in my bag + a sodden left foot!
Hopefully will make Blighty tomorrow.
Will let you know!!
Not sure I share the belief that the old models are better than the new ones!!

Decided to risk the journey home. Stopped after 25 miles to check. No water in expansion bottle.
I brimmed it and covered 40 miles, and filled again. All in, I used 15 litres in less than 300 miles and rolled in to Calais as the leak got worse and worse.
Very relieved when I ended my journey after another 200 miles and numerous fill ups.
Will post a report on the trip once I have sorted my pride and not so much of a joy!

Sorry to hear that yer trip got spoilt. I have many happy memories of trips in France, even ditched an old BMW at the side of the road, wonder if it's still there?
Hope you make it home ok and get the leak fixed.

Tont;
there are numerous products which will slow/stop radiators from leaking.....but NOT under very much pressure.
even oatmeal!!!!

Yeah, I even considered cracking a few egg whites!!
In the end I settled for water & coolant mix, just on a more than regular basis. At least I kept all the waterways and pump clean. Biggest concern was the water in the rad dropping below the temp switch. I was paranoid about knackering the head gasket.
I made it back, bike and one relieved rider in one piece! I knackered though when I got in last night!

Let me ask.. where this particular leak was on the rad?
Because if it was in the typical upper left hand or even right hand corners of the radiator (by the mounting brackets) you may be able to reach it with some fast curing epoxy if you needed to, in a pinch like you've described being in here.

Just happy the rear tire didn't get slick and dump you off. Glad you made it home. A little coolant sure makes a big mess, doesn't it?

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

Yeah looks like the typical support bracket location. This seems to be the apparent weak spot just below where they have their welded supports tied in. This is another one of those items that should totally be a clear, no arguements , no excuses, no questions asked recall.
