Anyone Gut Out Their Cat?

On my 05 BMW R1200GS I cut out a small section of the pipe and removed the bee hive part of the cat. converter with no ECU mods. Has anyone done this to a MV. Same as a eliminator pipe I guess but free. Or has anyone replaced the mid pipe only and not done any computer work. Thanks.

I've done it several times. Looks bone stock, but no cat.

CAG, My past ones that I have done on other brands have ran better, sounded better and ran cooler, that is why I want to do it. Is this the case with a MV?

I have no faith whatsoever in the butt dyno. I never dynoed it after I did the mod, and the bike never ran hot to begin with.

It does sound a little better for sure.

I cut them in front of the cat, not behind it. Just be sure you scribe a reference mark so it will line up when you reweld it.

Yeah, not worried about horsepower numbers, I just can not stand those things. I tried looking through one once, and could not believe what I saw(nothing) Never had any use for one since then, Its coming out of there, just a matter of time. Thanks

gutting cats

like CAG said scribe some reference marks and saw through the weld. i drilled 7/16" holes around the outer edge and pulled the cat out
use a respirator the dust isn't good for you!
then weld it back up
now i need to open the mufflers and get rid of the Hausmann baffles

Never "gutted' my cat as I don't have one. Never did. But I did nail my neighbor's nasty feline with a dart.

I got mine. Boy do I ever got mine.

lee,
i use an Anschutz 54 super match with a Kenyon trigger and cb longs from CCi
or up close a Unique DES69 with Aguila Colibri 20gr bullets
DO NOT use the Colibris in a long barrel, they WILL stick!
to rid the neighborhood of pests
