Cool Millesettantotto back in action

New waterpump with bigger impeller fitted, everything checked. Problem appears to have disappeared.

Mike,

So is the new water pump available world wide for the F4? also will this water pump, work on all f4 1000 cc bikes?

It's a factory part so it should be.

If the waterpump on the 1000 (and 312) is identical to the one on the 1078, then in goes the new one! It consists of a bigger impeller and a slightly larger housing.

When I went to the MV Agusta Facility back in December, I had the opportunity to sit down and speak with Andrea Goggi, the Head Engineer for the motor division -- we spoke at length about the heat issues with the motor. Mr. Goggi was very honest and direct about the issue, and had manufactured a new, "modified" water pump (which is what I suspect is now being offered and used). I was given a prototype of this new pump to bring back to the US and install in Motor Milt's bike for evaluation. Well, before it got to Motor Milt, I took the liberty of opening the pump and snapping a few pics (you can see below). Mr. Goggi told me the plan was to manufacture this new water pump and offer it as an upgrade to MV owners....he also asked me to keep quiet about it until they had launched the upgrade opportunity. Hopefully I have honored that and my post now is OK.

The impeller is now so agressive and the fins are much higher, moving a good 50% more water when operating. If you look closely at the waterpump cover, they even had to mill out the radius area of where the higher fins would spin to accomodate the height of the new impeller. This was a special "one-off" pump made for MotorMilt to test for MV. The pumps being manufactured now will contain cast impellers, rather than the CNC milled impeller as seen in the picture. We found that the pump dropped the temps a good 15-20 degrees in stop and go traffic, and on hot days. The performance of the new pump was excellent for street riding conditions.

One special note: I was specifically told that when installing this pump you should NOT use the Clic-R clamps on the water output tube of the pump -- you MUST use a worm-drive clamp. If you don't, there is a large chance hat the water exhaust hose can blow right off of its fitting because of the higher water pressure in this area.

I have posted the photos in my album, you can view the new water pump here:
