Reliability of the F4 1078

Hi friends,
i am almost ready to pull the trigger on the Beast so i starded the last run of checks, reviews.....and problems. I read (italian forum) about some people having serious engine issues (and some more stuff) with the F4 1078 RR. Tried to search and understand if it's only matter of a few unlucky guys or there is really a problem with this model. I owned a 2005 F4 1000 1+1 and never had any problems and i would like to keep it this way.
What can you tell me about how reliable is this bike?
Cheers

Hi Rikkirix,

After the initial over heating issues (upgraded impeller installed and muzzy fans and engine ice), the fuel lines being eaten by ethanol in US Gas; the bike has given me 11,000 miles so far without any engine issues. What year is the one you are planning to purchase? So far so good, Knock on Wood!

hi Midnicrow, thanx for the input.
Still didn't decide wich one to get but even here in Italy there are not many 1078 on sale (actually just 8 in all Italy); i wonder if a later series ('09) might be better if the company corrected some issues. I read about some radiator leaking problems and some more stuff.
Of course 11k miles with no issues i would say you got a jap average

Well I have to say that mine is an 09 and maybe they finally got all the bugs out of the system by then. Or maybe they decided to put a little extra care as these were the last ones being made. Either way if you can get your hands on one at a good price, go for it!

It s a fantastiic bike/motor in my opinion and I made more than 40.000 Kms on mine both track and street without a single problem/issue.
A lot of people betting that I wouldn't finish the track days. In one track day a guy had the third cylinder blown away and it s one of the serious problems some had but I think in the older F4 versions.
I later went with an RSV4 on track that suited me best but do miss that raw power of the 1078 on the track

Thanx guys, encouraging indeed because after reading some experiences i was quite disappointed. Looks like the most common problem on Mvs is the lack of good professionals working on the bikes.
cheers

Nice one, enjoy your trip and if you are close to south Tuscany send a whistle and we have a caffè together.

Very reliable! The first thing happened just now after 24.000 kms; gear return spring broke. Minor thing.

What a beast of a motorcycle!
It growls and rages and flies across the tarmac like a wild animal that has escaped the confinement of a cage and after merely waiting restlessly until the release, will not endure being locked up ever again.

Skye I miss you. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.
