Unhappy Water Pump Leak

Guys, I've just discovered a coolant leak on my bike, it's coming from the water pump see pic.

Note the cobweb!

I have seen this before on cars, they have a similar hole in the waterpump. A drip from here normally requires the pump to be replaced.

Anybody else had a similar leak on their MV ?

Thanks for the link Matty, I notice that the author says that it may disappear in 1000 miles. My bike has been standing for about 10/11 months, I think I'll clock up some miles to see if it 'heals' itself before I pull it apart. Do you know if the pumps comes apart without too much fuss?

i took mine apart very simply. its only a few screws and it comes off so if it comes down to that i dont think you will have a problem.

That is the "weep" hole and the leak is from the water pump mechanical seal. It could very well bed itself and quit leaking, as long as the leak is just a trace and not steady dripping.

Believe it or not, Stop-Leak is a time honored lubricant/sealer for cooling systems that many OEMs actually put in new vehicle's to help the mechanical seals do their thing quickly. You might try a tube.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.
