Front Brakes

I have been reading this thread for awhile and note that there appears to be some dissatisfaction with F4 front braking and talk of replacing the Nissins with Brembos etc. So just exactly is the beef? Are we talking Harley front braking quality here? Or is it just soft but adequate? I have a Duc Tricolore the front brakes on which are so strong and so sensitive that I only use one finger and even at that sometimes I grab too much. I imagine a hard squeeze would either launch me or flip the thing over on it's back. So what's the deal?
I ask because I'm looking at a Tamburini and would prefer not to spend all those $'s and have to upgrade the front brakes.

Lee, I've go tan E4 1000S and have no issues with the brakes, they could be better but are certainly adequate for two finger braking. I would say that they are certainly as good as the other 1000cc bikes I've ridden (R1, ZX10R)

Lee, i had an 98 R1 with standard brakes then I had a Ducati 916 with Brembo p4's and the difference was incredible. I remember riding it out of the service station where we done the swap, onto the motorway where i sat for a few minutes before i even had to brake. Then i saw brake lights ahead so i reacted as i would have done 30mins previously on the R1. I nearly went over the bars. Very sharp indeed and without fade. Anyhow, i then traded that in for th F4. rode home and thought, oh god these pads need some serious wearing in. there was just no real good bite. anyway, im used to the brakes now, and sometimes when i come into a roundabout hard i do think 'i need more brakes' but generally they are 'ok'. however, i feel if i got onto a 1098 now i would think, jeez, im really missing out on some serious braking power.

Dido. Have the same bike and brakes- zero problems. People think they need this stuff, but the reality is sometimes different than our own perseption. Plus the factory Nissins are a six piston progressive design that happens to be a great all around package in my opinion. I.E. Nice intial bit followed up by great lineral stopping forces produced by the progressive design (smart and works good).

The F4S' Nissan brakes have a soft feel to them but are still progressive and stop well.

I agree with Alan. I have a Ducati with Brembo brakes and my SPR with Nissan. The Brembo are more sensitive but stop great. The Nissans require a bit more grab by the rider but stop the bike very well. I've ridden both bikes fast (not crazy fast) and the brakes work fine. That being said, I'm not a racer and don't regularly get bikes over 125 mph. I guess it is just like everything else. Evaluate your needs and your wants...then your wallets and make your own choice.

My feeling is that Nissin compared to Yamaha R1, Ducati 1098 Brembo and F41000R Brembos are by far the least competitive in terms of stopping power and stopping feeling. I never liked them.
