Written by Barry Symmons on February 16, 2007 at 12:02

Background Information

Martin Finnegan’s team is run from Lusk which is in County Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.

Extreme 45 is Martin’s business which sells motorcycles and equipment for all extreme sports such as Snowboarding, Surfing, Mountain biking and Windsurfing etc

The team will be an integral part of the Klaffi Team details of which will be announced at the TT Press conference to be held in the Isle of Man on the 2nd February 2007

Barry Symmons will act as the team coordinator for the MV Agusta section of the team reporting directly to the factory on all aspects of the machine and team’s activities. In addition he will coordinate the Superstock assault in the Isle of Man.

Barry Symmons managed the successful Honda Britain Racing team from 1977 to 1987. He was responsible for looking after riders such as Joe Dunlop, 5 times F 1 World Champion, Roger Marshall, Roger Burnett, Ron Haslam and later to become 500 cc World champion, Wayne Gardner, He has been in Martin Finnegan support team for the last 4 years.

Barry started his career as a support member of a sidecar racing team and later went on to work for Phil Read, one of MV’s great riders. His first professional job in motorcycle sport was to collect the MVs from Heathrow and transport them to races in the UK, under the guidance of then team manager Arturo Magni. In the late eighties he cooperated with Marco Capoferi in bringing Honda works machinery for Fred Merkel to ride in the forerunner of WSB, the Italian Superbike championship. The team later re-formed under the Moto Rumi banner. In 1989 he returned from Circuit management at Snetterton to head the JPS Norton team, under his direction in 1992, Norton achieved its first TT success for over 30 years, a feat he hopes to replicate with MV in 2007 and beyond.

The team also hope to develop the Superstock machine into a Road Race winning Superbike over the course of 2007 but their main objective will be the TT Superstock race
