MEDIA RELEASE

Burns pushes hard to take some big scalps in free practice at Thruxton

Despite a distinct lack of horsepower from the MV Agusta F4 312RR of STP Motorsport rider Chris Burns put in an astonishing free practice session to finish in second place in the Superbike Cup category and 14th overall in the Superbike classification.

Chris Burns finished today’s sessions .551 seconds behind Championship favourite John Laverty and 2.663 seconds away from provisional pole sitter Cal Crutchlow. The team is extremely happy with thgis performance as they were well aware that Thruxton is a pure horsepower circuit and the MV Agusta is still running about 25 – 35 horsepower down on its main competitors. This gap will be closed in the coming weeks with more development work planned.

Chris Burns, Rider:
“We have only been able to make minor changes to the bike since Brands Hatch,” says Chris Burns. “However, they seem to have made a big difference, the biggest of which are the 16.5 inch rear wheels from Dymag. They are making the bike handle much better into the corners and giving me much more confidence. This is rubbing off on me and I enjoying being on the bike, something I have not been able to say for a few years now.”

Jon Strike, Team Principal:
“To finish ahead of both Hydrex Hondas and one of the Rizla Suzukis is a real boost to the team’s confidence,” says Jon Strike STP Motorsport’s Team Principal. “There are a lot of very well funded bikes and experienced riders behind us at the moment and, while we recognise that free practice does not always tell the full story, we are elated with the results so far.”

Editor’s Note:
STP Motorsport would welcome any inquiries from potential partners/sponsors who may be interested in helping in its quest to take MV Agusta back to the top-flight of motorcycle racing. Or if you have any questions relating to the team, please contact Warwick Nowland at warwick.wnr@btinternet.com or Nigel Jones at nigelj@wskmarketingcommunications.com.
