MV Agusta Racing Wins First Australian Superbike Outing
MV Agusta Racing made its Australian Superbike racing debut at the Mercedes Benz East Coast Road Race Series dominating the first round with 3 wins from 3 races in the Superbike Class on the new F4 1000 R piloted by 22 year old Brendan Clarke. The first round of the series was held at Sydney’s Eastern Creek on Sunday January 21, 2007 in scorching conditions with the MV Agusta Racing F4 1000 R certainly fueling the fire and turning up the heat even further beating traditional bikes in the class. Clarke also won the lead up race to the East Coast Road Race Series the day before against his Sunday rivals to take out the Broc Parkes Cup.Clarke qualified the F4 1000 R on Pole and was up against seasoned Australian Superbike Championship (ASC) campaigners. Competition was extremely close in the first two 5 lap sprint races with Clarke just edging out Etheridge, Spence and Zaja. In the third Clarke had much more control, formidably winning the last by an impressive 4 seconds.MV Agusta Racing team manager Steve Trinder was extremely pleased with the result saying, “What an impressive start to the series with the team taking out all 3 wins as well as winning Saturday’s lead up race. In all my years of motor racing, I have never seen such a superior motorcycle, literary straight out of the crate, with only race slick tyres, race fibre glass and gearing, out perform fully proven Superbikes, from not only the initial drive out of the turns, but all the way to topend performance. The standard suspension and geometry of the F41000R can only be described as a riders and tuners dream package. It truly is the Ferrari of motorcycles. The F4 1000 R ran faultlessly and what makes the victory even sweeter is that we obviously have a massive scope for development.”MV Agusta importer Paul Feeney commented, “What a debut for the team and the bike. It’s been a busy period getting the team and the bike ready for our superbike road racing debut in Australia and it couldn’t have gone any better. This just demonstrates how competitive and capable the F4 1000 R really is and I’m sure served a warning to the traditional superbike rivals.” MV Agusta Racing took the clean sweep of points in the first round stamping their dominance early and sending a clear message that MV is a serious contender. The next East Coast Road Race Series round will be held at Wakefield Park, Goulburn on Sunday March 18, 2007.
