Yamaha nears the mythical MV-Agusta outfit
After taking victory last weekend in the Gauloises TT Assen, Yamaha added its 137th win to its impressive win list in the premier class. The triumph allowed Yamaha to reinforce its ranking as the brand with the third most victories in the premier class and move even closer to the legendary MV-Agusta, now just two victories ahead.

Without a doubt, Yamaha’s elevated position over the last few years has much to do with MotoGP superstar Valentino Rossi. The Italian rider has already racked-up 15 GP wins since leaving Honda in 2004 to join the Japanese factory – a move he made after winning three World Championship titles with Honda.

With now only two more wins to go before equalling the MV-Agusta record – a record achieved from 1952 to 1976 by legends such as Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood – Yamaha looks likely to catch up with the Italian factory in the very near future, especially with Rossi’s run of wins showing no sign of coming to an end any time soon.

The following list shows the number of premier-class victories for each factory:

1. Honda 193

2. MV-Agusta 139

3. Yamaha 137

4. Suzuki 89

5. Gilera 35

6. Norton 21

7. AJS 5

8. Cagiva 3

Matchless 3

Moto Guzzi 3

11. Kawasaki 2

12. Ducati 1

Jawa 1

Konig 1

Linto 1

Sanvenero 1
