Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #5
NEW FIM WORLD RECORD 191.642MPH (308.417KPH) pending FIM certification

Today started at 5:30AM as we headed for the salt at 6:00AM. Once there, we set the pit up and got the MV Agusta F41000R312 ready for tech inspection. We sailed through inspection with no problems, fueled the bike and staged for our first run.

The weather was a perfect 68 degrees (20 C) with virtually no wind. The track was fast...couldn't ask for better conditions.

Just prior to Rosey's first run, North American Director for JeanRichard Swiss Watches presented a prototype of their new Bonneville watch to Rosey to wear during his ride. The thought was that this watch could be part of a world record run and that would sure speak volumes for the introduction of this watch early next year.

We then went to staging and became the second bike to run the 10-mile long course. Rosey was confident and I was nervous. He took off and by the time he had hit third gear we all smiled and knew our changes had paid off. We had found the traction we were looking for. The first run into a 2 mph head wind was 190.614mph (306.763 kph). We had broken the world record by 2 mph and now had to do the return run within two hours. The second run was 192.670 mph (310.072 kph) and that gave us an average speed of 191.642mph (308.417 kph)

Now you would think we'd be jumping up and down...and we weren't. We have the rest of the week to see if another competitor exceeds this speed. As Rosey and I talked we fully expected to get the record but all we could focus on was that this bike should be able to go 200mph (322kph).

We've made some changes to the gearing and may adjust rear tire pressure and I'll go for the American Motorcycle Association national record that we hold at 187.900 mph (302.395kph). It would be great to follow the script of two records in two days and then we can go after the 200 mph barrier the rest of the week. Weather tomorrow is supposed to be much like today 71 degrees (21.6 C) and sunny.

Beginning tomorrow we'll be including video clips with our updates and maybe we'll have another record to share with you.

WOW Rosey, I am going to need a new autograph with the new record on it. Obviously the one you gave me at the Bike Show in NYC in 06 is outdated!
