MV Agusta hits the Australian Superbike Championship
MV Agusta has finally made its much anticipated debut into the Australian Superbike Championship at the double-header Queensland Raceway round over the weekend. Team riders Brendan Clarke and Craig Trinder impressed the record breaking 12,500 fans with consistent results and a very professional team set-up.Piloting MV Agusta’s revolutionary F4 R 312, Queensland local Brendan Clarke had a consistent weekend with two 11th place finishes on Saturday’s round six, and a 12th and 11th on Sunday’s round seven. While it was a debut for MV Agusta in the Superbike class, it was also the first time in the big league for Brendan. After years spent in the Supersport Class, the move to Superbikes was a daunting one.“I was a little disappointed with my results from the weekend,” said Brendan. “It was my first time riding in the Superbike class and there are a lot of fast riders the whole way through the pack. We made a lot of progress with bike set-up and really improved on our race lap times across the weekend. In fact by the end of the meeting our times were extremely competitive, which shows that we are continuing to improve at a rapid rate. The bike was incredible and I have no doubt it has the pace to run at the front.”Riding his kitted-out MV Agusta Brutale 910R, Craig Trinder rode a very impressive session of races to finish on the podium for both rounds. Kicking the weekend off was a very creditable win in the Naked Bike category first race (a world-wide first win for the Brutale), while claiming third after riding through the pack after a pit lane start in the second race. Sunday’s racing again got away to a brilliant start with a second place finish in race one, along with a new lap record for the Naked Bike class. Trinder then went on to grab another podium position with third in the final race of the day for what was an incredible weekend for the Queensland local.“It was a fantastic weekend for us,” said Craig. “For a case of irony, Queensland Raceway was where we took our last win in the Naked Bike class and also back-to-back championships in 2002/2003 and that was also the last time I raced here, so to come back and win the first race was pretty special.“The Brutale is an absolutely brilliant motorcycle to ride. The commentators dubbed it the Ferrari of motorcycles across the weekend, and they couldn’t have named it any more accurately. I suffered a little from lack of race fitness across the weekend. After my recent injury I haven’t been able to spend much time on the bike.
