HD need to shift some stock to get the assets closer to the offer prices they have had

Is that really a deal?

1198: $16,500
1198S: $21,500
S1000: $13,800
RSV4: $16,000
R1: $13,200
CBR1000: $13,400
...

Seems HD is attempting to be slightly more competitive on price, since it can no longer rely simply on looks and superior finish quality.
Also, surely (assuming a new buyer) MV will release an 'R' version with better suspension, some carbon, and maybe more electronics, which would be priced a little more than an 1198S.

It's a better deal that if the 312RR had rolled into 2010 with the $25,000 price tag.

....this price was announced months ago....!?!?!

We know but we didn't want to ruin his moment.

Yep, but $18,500 is for the basic, bone stock bike...just wait for the tweaked R models to start showing up, worry not, you'll see them get back up to $25K in short order

I have not doubt. Ducati's prices have also started to creep up since the 1098 was originally priced at $15,000 is 2007. The base 1198 is not $16,500.

But the price drops on European motorcycles is a nice, temporary relief to things that usually go up in price.

Ducatiusa.com states that the MSRP for the 1198 is $16495 of course I guess that does not include shipping and other setup fees.

I doubt anybody is paying retail for the 1198 though, I have been trying to sell my 1098 for months and unless I give it away nobody is buying them...

It's the S1000rr that they are worried about. It's selling like hot cakes. The MV has it in spades on build quality and desirability. If you want hot 1/4 mile times buy a VMAX. I have driven the S1000rr many times and if you block out the hype, it's just a plasticy ugly J bike.
