Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #11
Well the fat lady has sung! We had the battle of battles and beauty won over age this year. We did everything imaginable to find out where we had lost at least 10% of our power from the day we set the record and since the second day we were certain it was our o2 sensors that control fuel to the motor. If we had had access to the motor control system we could have fixed it. We never got the software to operate the system. We ordered two new o2 sensors and were sent the wrong ones. That left us in a position to rule out every other possibility, which we did.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #10
Well tomorrow, Sunday, it comes down to the last three hours of racing at the 2008 Bonneville Land Speed Record meet. The question tomorrow morning is...will it be age or beauty that prevails?

This morning we showed up at the starting line at 8:00AM and Leslie Porterfield was there in front of us. She was first to go this time and we were second. She broke our record by 1.2 mph and now we are chasing her record of 192.8 mph. That's racing. Here we are going 190mph and it comes down to three hours and 1.2 mph.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #9
What a day. We still have the record, but we are really in a battle. Our arch rival is a lady named Leslie Porterfield from Dallas, Texas. This is the story of Bonneville at its finest.

Right now we are literally 1 mph apart in our speeds. We still hold the edge. The attitude is friendly competition and may the fastest person win. Today we showed up at the line at exactly the same time and ran one after the other. I've attached photos on of Leslie and Rosey on the starting line. You'll also see Leslie on another bike she has here where she set a new world record of something more than 234mph. To say that we are impressed is an understatement. But that's what this place is all about. It's sportsmanship, comradeship, and everyone helping each other. It's unique in the world of motorsports.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #8
Today started out on a somber note. The bad accident that ended the day yesterday resulted in the death of the driver, 47 year old Cliff Gullet. I had just visited his pit to look at his streamliner. His effort was a family affair and I was very impressed with their streamliner. We used footage of it in the opening of our update this morning as a tribute to him.

Obviously this was the conversation around the salt flats for much of the day. The conclusion reached seemed to be that no one is in denial of the danger associated with this sport, but somehow the risk gives meaning to life. I doubt anyone worries about the danger ..... we accept it and if it happens then that's the way it is. At least we exit doing something we enjoy.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #6
NEW AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION RECORD 191.642MPH (308.417KPH)

Today was filled with all kinds of surprises and some were better than others. Rather than get ahead of myself let me just tell you how they played out.

We were on the salt at 6:00AM as JeanRichard wanted to have a sunrise breakfast at our pits. Seeing the sunrise on the salt is almost a religious event. As the sun comes up everyone pauses to watch that fireball rise over the mountains in the east.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #5
NEW FIM WORLD RECORD 191.642MPH (308.417KPH) pending FIM certification

Today started at 5:30AM as we headed for the salt at 6:00AM. Once there, we set the pit up and got the MV Agusta F41000R312 ready for tech inspection. We sailed through inspection with no problems, fueled the bike and staged for our first run.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #4
The day started out a little edgy. It was 55 degrees (12.7C) and we thought we might have to race snowmobiles! The wind was gusting to 50mph (80 kph) and no one was allowed on the salt. By the time we went to breakfast the sun had come out, the wind died and the temperature went up to 68 degrees (20C) and it was a glorious day.

Bonneville Land Speed Record Update #3
Since our updates are going to a few hundred thousand more people this year than just friends and family, many of my friends in Europe have asked me to take them along on the road trip to Bonneville. This begs the question: "Is the journey the adventure or is it the destination?"

For those of you who have never driven across America let me explain a few things. The mileage from Detroit, Michigan to Wendover, Utah is 1,825 miles (2,937 km). We departed Detroit at 5:00AM on Saturday and arrived Wendover at 9:00PM the next day. This is a journey. Driving from Milan to Brussels is a short day trip for us.
