Default Oil cooler. Used ? be careful

I'm fitting an oil cooler to my bike...It looks brand new and is off a very low miles bike. I'm being careful though. It could have shrapnel inside it if the previous engine had a problem. It is unlikely but possible.

The last thing I want to do is total a three grand engine.

So I'm going to flush it out before I use it.

If any of us has done this operation I'll be interested in any tips...Otherwise i am taking it to my friends forklift company and get them to do it.

go to anyone with a solvent tank, they have circulation pumps, just plug it in and let it run for a while

I have a small submersible pump, I hooked it up to my oil cooler and ran it for a few hours, both directions, using kerosene. Several shakes and taps with a rubber mallet during the process to dislodge anything which might be in there.

A strong, moderate pressure is required, approx 30 psi, so the flow is strong enough to dislodge any metal chips rather than just take the path of least resistance.

At least those are my thoughts. I'm pretty certain the cooler is clean. I did get a few small chips in the bucket where the kerosene was being recirculated.
