I've just bought a microtec ecu for my 1078 brutale from Xbikes.Hopefully It'll arrive before Christmas as I'm off work for the holidays and I'll have plenty of time to fit it. I've spoken to Chris Wells (same surname as me ..pity I didn't have the same knowledge!) from Xbikes who has assured me it'll transform the bikes rideability. However he did say I'd really need to remove the cat to get the best benefit, but as my bike's cat and manifolds are 'one piece' I'm going to see how it works with the full 'stock' system. I'll get a new system in the new year if required. I must confess I know very little about ECUs and hope it's very simple to install properly. If I run into any problems I'll be relying on any help I can get so I can forsee phone calls to Xbikes and cries for help here! Wish me luck lads!!

hey there,

I received a firmware from microtec to fix the "no start when in gear" issue.
I sent it to Chris. He's going to send me the procedure to flash the new firmware in.

I'm looking for a suitable map switch, any idea of a good one and how to connect it up ? (need to find the proper connector's pin)

cheers

PS: Thanks to Chris for the Microtec, my 312RR is a different bike now !

Hi
Map switch is quite easy, just one pin on the 20 way ampex connector that selects map 2 when grounded. I had to butcher another connectors pin to make it work with the plug housing supplied, works though. Any spdt switch will work. If you need I can dig out the pin diagrams. I will also ask chris for the firmware update, that's great news they have done this as it was the one and only thing that bugged me about the microtek.

I have the pin-out schematics, but usually 2 wires come out an spdt switch, I don't know which one I should connect to the ECU...

Also, a lot can be adjusted in the ECU, based on wheel speeds, do you know about the type of sensor needed ?

cheers !

Hi,
The map switch is a single wire, when its not connected to ground the ECU uses map1. when its grounded it uses map 2. I meant to say spst switch....my bad.

As fas as speed sensor, you can use a hall type or take a feed off the stock one I think but would have to confirm. Then you can have speed based timing / fuel, you can also feed in analouge gear position (potentiometer based) to have gear based mapping also.

yes is correct but if you need a map for gear or use traction control you must have sensor on gearshift.....there is a kit....

i use a M226 on my Brutale!

and i have made this to control launch and map select

Awesome work! Did you build the traction control maps (fuel/timing maps per gear / engine accel) yourself through road testing or get one from MV?

if I am not mistaken this is the same 'rate of change' system used on later MV's (versus wheel speed sensing).

i have the map used on MV F4 SBK used in Italian Championship (Luca Scassa) and modified it.

yes is the alogorithm is the same of latest....developed by Magneti Marelli....

but you need have this to use traction control....(we build this) (the cover is magnesium alloy)

Genius! I often wondered how racing teams set up the analog potentiometer for the gear position with the microtec....now I know.

You sir are are going to be an amazingly valuable member of forum!!! How about sharing the map?, would be interesting in seeing their set up even though I wont be able to use a lot of the functionality (I an into this kind of thing in general)

I know it's slightly off thread Davman - but you haven't given us the low-down on the 1078? - what are your impressions between the two now?
