Can I ask exactly what you were doing and what they wrote on the ticket ? I'm interested to know as I lane split all the time and have even done it past a few police cars...

Passing on the left is apparently a traffic violation. I had words with a hwy patrol last year on my way to uni about me overtaking on the left or 'undertaking'. I got into an argument with him about how stupid it was and eventually gave up and said 'I'm just not getting through to you. Just leave'.
If cars are stationary then you can ride down the middle, as soon as the cars are moving at that's considered 'lane splitting'. Will also depend on what kind of cop sees you doing it. |

Just a thought though, in vic at least, its not law to keep left unless the road speed is greater than 80km/hr. So surely fines for overtaking on the left should only be issued on these such roads yeah? |

This was on a highway that a "keep left unless overtaking" wasn't valid, ours are only on freeways in Sydney or unless shown. I brought up the point about sitting in the fast lane and not overtaking anyone and apparently you dont get a fine for that anymore (according to cunstable faggot) so why do you get a fine for "undertaking" i have no idea.

So we're you on a 2 (going in the same direction) lane road and you went past a slower car while you were in the left lane and them in the right? If so you are not overtakeing. Take it to court.
Passing on the left is when you go past someone on a 1 lane road on the left. And lane filtering (stopped cars and going between them) Is technically legal. But you break about 3 laws when you do it. Some cops will let you get away with it. Some won't. Lane splitting (moving cars) is illegal. |

3 lane road, i was in left approaching lights, went green, left lane ended and i merged in front of cars in the middle then the lights came on. I got off cause i argued for a solid 10mins about how stupid it was and i was already late for uni so i wasn't in the mood for some idiot on a morning power trip.

For my situation.
2 lanes of traffic going same direction. The left had a green arrow for the left which is where i wqs going. It went orange as soon as I moved parralel to the car on the curb side, made I past and turned my left. Cop on side at road yelled at me to stop, so I did. We "talked" (we basically yelled at each other whilst motorists in cars looked on, I thought It was pretty comical) abit. He claimed I ran a red light, I stated that he couldn't see the arrow (which was orange) from where he was standing. He decided that he would give me the benefit of the doubt in regards to the red light and instead would get me for passing on the left. I said what a joke and should I of gone to the right of the car and turned in front of it, he said yes (wtf!?!?). He then said, he was a rider too....... Which was the ultimate twist of the knife. He then finished with you can expect an infringement in the mail soon. Champ!

Yeah that's crap. That is not 'undertaking' if you haven't paid it take it to court. Don't mention the amber light. It will get thrown out.
He's not a rider. They all say that. Ask him what he rides. Then pick 2 cc's that it's not in. So he says brutale. Ask 600 or 870? Bet he will pick one. Caught out 3 cops so far. |
