Hi folks,

Been a little while since I've been on here. :smoking: Haven't been on the MV for a while too, but that will hopefully change very soon (dreary british weather permitting) as the bike has just returned from 'transformative surgery' with Chris at X-Bikes.

Hats off to Dave and Andrew for providing inspiration, great postings and advice with their projects. It's been over 18 months now since I kicked my own little project off, with the purchase of a pair of Ohlins FGR100's from Dan Kyle. Little did I know then what I was getting into. I am super pleased though with the end result!!

In brief the mods on this project have included, in no particular order:

MV Corse forged wheels
Brembo T-Drive discs (more on those later)
Ohlins FGR100 gas-charged superbike forks
Kyle 52mm adjustable clip-ons, needle bearing throttle
Titanium front axle
Moto Corse F4C Billet Upper Triple Clamp and bearing dust cover
Brembo Racing X99C460 monobloc calipers
Sato Racing adjustable rear sets
Brembo 19 RCS radial master brake cylinder
Brembo 16 RCS clutch master cylinder
Moto Corse reservoirs to suit Brembo RCS master cylinders
Moto Corse Ohlins TTX36 rear shock
Microtec M227 ECU
Cordona quickshifter
Exhaust de-cat
Shorai LFX battery
Painted front guard

Chris's work was simply awesome. He of course did the Microtec ECU changeover, quick shifter fitting and dyno/tuning work, but also the hard work getting the other chassis, suspension and brake components fitted and machining and making up the custom spacers, brackets and assorted pieces to make everything fit together so well. We had some delays and shenanigans with Brembo UK getting custom-offset brake centres made up, but otherwise Chris dealt with all the 'niggles' that came up on a project of this type with aplomb.

Thanks also go out to the other great suppliers, some of whom are site sponsors, I had the good fortune to deal with, including:

Al at Design Corse
Dan at Kyle Racing USA
Roland and Jason at Motovation USA
Alex and Vikki at Gutsy Performance
Davide at Moto Corse
Brian at Motowheels

I will post up some pics of the final result in the next few days. :f4:

I hate you guys with the killer front forks.:smoking: Can't wait to see finished pics! Nice stuff.:)

Glad to see I am a bad influence. Great work and like everyone else. I can't wait to see the end results. Make sure you get the forks adjusted for you and the bike. This made the greatest effect on mine after I had the correct springs installed.

Glad to see I am a bad influence.......

What Randrew's really saying Sean is, "thank goodness I'm not the only fool here willing to pour boatloads of money into my F4". :naughty:

Juuuuust kiddin. Nice bike.

(Almost) Finished Pics

Thanks for all the compliments :)

Here are a couple of (very rushed) pics taken this afternoon. Apologies not the greatest setting outside the shed either...and the photographer is rubbish!

I also need to lose the standard number plater hanger quick smart and get a half decent tail tidy, possibly the pillion pegs too...oh the embarrassment :naughty:

@ John - A ride out would be great mate. I'll PM you my (new) mobile number. How's the mini-me battery working out for you?

@ Andrew and The Castle - you boys have a lot to answer for leading me to temptation :smoking: Andrew - the suspension is on 'bog standard' setting for my weight until I get to ride it a bit / play with it some. Got a box of different weight springs here that came with the Ohlins. Think there's 9.5 Nmm springs in there now.

Man those forks are pure porn. I didn't want to put them on the bike. They are BEAUTIFUL. Cant explain....you just want to hold them

Looking good Sean.. This bike has the Moves Like Jagger

.
The bike looks great mate..

When I first saw it down the Ace Cafe just after you installed the MV Corse wheels and the MV Corse neoprene race seat, I said that your bike changed my option of the new F4 and I became a fan of the new model..

I’ve only testing the Li Ion battery on my Kawasaki, as I don't feel confident enough to risk fitting them on the MV, Ducati, or BMW.. See Pic..

Mind you, I did fit one to the Ducati to make sure the bike ran okay after I serviced it and the battery managed to turn the motor over.. Only just

I’m not a massive fan yet of this new technology, until motorbike manufacturers start fitting “ Smart” charging systems as standard to their modern bikes..

The last thing I want is my bike to go up in flames if the Li Ion battery has a dead cell and the charging system can’t detect this scenario and keeps pumping out voltage..

I've bought 3 x 18amp and 1 x 14 amp Li Ion batteries for my bikes, but as yet I've only fitted the one 18amp to the Kawasaki..

How you getting on with yours?

.

"moves like jagger".....I like it!!

That's a pretty nice, neat install in the Kwaka there John!!

So far, my battery appears to be fine. As I understand it, the chemistry in them is not Li Ion (like a laptop or power tool battery) but Li Fe PO, so actually Fe - as in Iron rather than Ion. If you take the manufacturer at their word, these batteries are more stable and do not behave like Li Ion in an overcharge scenario. Though I agree with you the technology is pretty new, and still to be proven, but I've not heard of any Shorai's bursting into flames - not be be confused with Li Ion - those are seriously bad news if you over anything them, hence why they need all the fancy built in charge control electronics to tame them.

Saying all that, the bike definitely has a significant parasitic draw. Always has had from new. Variously people tell me MV's eat batteries. Think I need to get the DMM out to properly measure the current, just to get a handle of how bad it is. I don't think the alarm helps especially either. Pretty sure that's what killed the last battery, as I only had it on a battery tender sporadically....

Sean,

I saw you have Brembo HP calipers, and see you doesn't have anti-rattle plates on it, does your brake pads move back and forth a little when you spin the front tire, and making little noise too?

What is your feedback on it?

Hi Phil,

Short answer is I need to put some decent miles on the bike, to tell properly if there are any rattles from the pad area. So far cannot detect any. The weather and roads here are pretty, well, iffy at the moment - so might be a short while before I can give you any meaningful feedback on the new disc/caliper/lines/lever performance and feel.

I previously had these discs, with the standard t-drive offset carriers (we got new carriers made to suit the different offset with the FGR forks) and the standard calipers and the performance and feedback was really good. Pretty much everything has now be uprated on the front brake system, the only carry-over are the t-drive discs themselves. So I'm expecting good things, but cant report back just yet...
