I am pretty sure the base model doesn't has a steering damper, but could someone confirm if it doesn't?
The Special parts catalog lists the Ohlins damper for 560€, which is way too high for a standard Ohlins damper that retails between $300 and $400 in US.
Is there a way to source the Ohlins damper from the Ohlins USA distributor rather than paying more than double to the MV dealer (and possibly waiting for months)?
The bracket for the F4 costs around $150 from MV. I guess the F3 mount would be in the same price range. That would still work out way cheaper than getting everything from MV for $1100!!
Bugger that is expensive and I reckon the F3 needs a steering damper.
I'm finding my bars go quite crazy with any front wheel air time over bumps when accelerating hard. I experimented doing wheelies but the fueling, as good as it is now, doesn't play ball and that's when I realised it needs a damper.
Do you guys think if I buy all the above mounting parts except the damper and put a universal Ohlins damper, it would work? At least this will be several hundred dollars cheaper! Is 68mm stroke enough?
I spoke with Ohlins USA today, to see if they were going to offer fork cartridges, rear shock and steering damper for the F3. They said "no", not enough volume on this brand/model ("we'd sell two"). If we owners could show some interest, not only would parts be cheaper than MV Special Parts, but we could ask for fork cartridges instead of the entire assembly (same result but 1/2 the cost).
Please respond about this issue and I will gladly pass it on to Ohlins USA.

They might still come around, if the sales keep doing well, a lot of dealers are scared to touch MV after getting their fingers burnt once before.
I believe there are options other than Ohlins on the market already, great quality too, just not in the USA. And... you can get Ohlins from other vendors at better prices than MV Special Parts, I imagine the exchange rate is what's scaring you of there.
I was quoted $1050 for the MV Corse damper. I instead opted for the Moto Corse kit, which includes a 68mm stroke Ohlins damper and a Moto Corse mount (looks similar to MV Corse) for half the price. Check with Alex at GP Racing, they have them in stock.
