So who's betting on who this season.

My money would be on Melandri or Sykes for the title, either being my favourite, although I was very dissapointed in Melandri for throwing it away last year, but also credit to both of them for doing well on bikes that are still being developed.

Although I think Quintoli and Laverty will win races for sure, not sure they can be up there all the time.

I don't think the Pannigali will do much more than a few wins, consistency is going to be a problem for them I think.

Wild cards would be Loris Baz and Giugliano in my eyes.
Sadly I don't hold much hope for the Honda or Suzuki guys.
So what do you guys think :yo:.

Sykes or Melandri have to be the two favorites this season. But I've liked Eugene Laverty the past few seasons. He'd be a pretty good dark horse.

Set up another league in the online MCN Fantasy picks. I'd gladly join in (and will try to do better than my pitiful showing last season).

Biagi retired???

Sykes if he can keep the rear tire on it. I like Checa but don't see him getting it. Melandri will be up there. It is very nice when he is doing good and they show his wife:naughty:

Good thread Donsey.....IMHO Melandri(BMW) and Sykes (Kawasaki) have to be the odds on favorites. The dark horses in the field are Haslam(Honda) and Guntoli?sp.(BMW). I would put Haslam in the frey as a title contender if he was on a competitive machine. Checa ? same situation as Haslam. The pre season testing hasnt looked good for the much anticipated Ducati 1199 Panigale. This may cause a bit of heated discussion but ..Ducati is getting screwed. Twins have inherent disadvantages in creating HP verses there v-4 and inline 4 competitors. YET they still have ther throttle bodies restricted to 50mm? The STOCK Ducati 199 Panigale runs 65mm throttle bodies for Christ sake . I know twins creates hp at lower rpm allowing better drive off of corners but the total hp gap has become too great for twins torque to equal. IMHO Dorna should at least let Ducati run the stock size of 65mm.

Maybe Ill lend Ducat/Checa MY Worked 1000cc Liquid Cooled Briggs & Stratton V-Twin thats in my Avatar LOL

I don't think the Honda has a chance Jake, Honda is putting all their effort into the MotoGp effort at the moment I think.
sorry but I think Ducati has enough of a advantage running a whole 200cc more than the 4's.
You have to remember this is supposed to be a Superbike class, what you run on the road in other words.

How come the 4's can't run 1100's anymore. You said it yourself, the Twins are weaker, maybe Ducati should start building 4's for street use, at least for Superbike racing.

I love the sound of the Twins going around, but if they can't keep up, they need to get out, there's been season's after season of Ducati winning WSBK at their advantage, with bikes that was so tuned they could hardly do 400km on a motor, where some of the 4's ran 5 motors for a whole season.

Wait till everybody starts running the same ECU's in 2 years time, that will be fun I think.
I have no simpathy for the Ducati's, they had the Flamini's in their pocket for long enough I recon.

Donsey I should have left the word Ducati out of the equasion. Twins are getting the screws . I am for getting as many manufactures IN WSBK. KTM will jump in with the the RC8R(which is a very high tech powerplant if you look) if they allow lager intakes and EBR is chomping at the bit to go WSBK Racing with the EBR 1190RS(anouther high tech twin from Rotax).
Under current rules ALL these modern twins would still have to be ...highly tuned ... like the Ducati to be competitive at best . And all these twins would need a ton of $$$$ to keep that high tune . So the smaller companies like KTM and EBR cant afford to enter.
Also the ...holomogation special for smaller companies ...Good idea Donsey, but it is now a thing of the past as the rules now say the manufacturer minium has been raised to 2000 sold units . .

Donsey if it was up to me I would have a team of engineers balancing all the different engine configurations .2 valve, Air cooled, Harley twins =1000cc & turbocharged, 15lbs boost ect .(extreme example)
If they keep favoritism out of the equation , you can balance different engines to make the same horsepower without using a control ECU. Then the manufactures get there technological developement . Race teams are happy being competitive with one anouther . And fans get close racing .

Donsey the last build of the season(after the Briggs v-twin turbo Harley electra Glide and turning a Buell 1125R into a 1125RR) is going to be a Turbocharged 2007 Buell XB12R Firebolt with 1420cc. Its still amazing to me that you can take an engine thats the technical equivelant of a John Deere Tractor, bolt on a turbo , and have it produce the same if not more horsepower as the highest tech normally asperated engines ever made.Anyhow .. this bike will also have sicom ceramic brakes ,Pro Grip traction control ect ect . In short this bike will be as close to WSBK tech wrapped around the a pumped up 1940s tech engine showing just how much you can balance out tech to allow any platform to be competiive .Now, how long you can get a POS harley sportster engine to pump out 200 hp and not grenade is anouther question lol
You can see the bike in my photo album...I have seen this 1420cc/turbo build before at a track day at road america. you should see the awe as a Harley engined Buell out powers bmw
s1000rr and zx10r down the straits . You would think Jesus had just walked on water LOL

I also have a Supercharged/Procharged 2000cc Road Glide we call the Power Glide that has roughly 215hp 185 torque . This build is getting revamped upgrading the suspension with Fg Gubillinni WSBK grade forks ,rear shock, pro grip one traction control, steering damper and installation of modern triple tree( Harley touring bikes triple trees top mounts arnt secured. AS they did in 1950s )We are trying to improve the bkes handling as much as can be done .
This bike pulls away from all the sportbikes on the long front strait at NJMP on track days and come summer we are going to put it on You Tube

The future by Carmel

A non-world championship category for 500cc four-stroke machinery could join the World Superbike schedule from 2015 onwards.

With MotoGP rights owners Dorna now controlling World Superbikes too, plans to drastically reduce costs and the technical specification of machinery in WSB and World Supersport means the European Superstock 1000 and 600 classes look certain to be cut off the schedule in 2014.

Dorna wants a team to be able to buy a bike off a factory in 2014 for a maximum price per season of 250,000 Euros (£207,000) in World Superbikes. A target maximum price for a bike per rider for a full season in a revamped World Supersport class will be around 100,000 Euros (£83,000).

And Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta told MCN: “There will be no place for both (European Superstock classes) because we will have something in World Supersport where you can race for around 100,000 Euros per season for one bike.

So there is no reason to have something that is very similar to Superstock. It is much better to have a big Superbike and Supersport grid than to have Supersport and Superstock.

We are thinking to make another support class like a one-make championship. For example now the manufacturers are interested in 500s, which is possible to make for 2015. It will not be a world championship but a 500 four-stroke class could be a good solution.”

I read this as Superbikes and Supersport being dropped and replaced by the Superstock classes which fits nicely with his tech spec reduction .

Is his middle name Honda ? By removing the 140+bhp Supersports he takes the pressure off Honda to improve the motor they supply to Moto 2.

By dropping the Superstock 600's he removes another entry point for the kids and some magic racing. There is already a one make championship in Europe, the Junior cup, for which incidently Honda will replace KTM and supply 500cc twins in 2013 .
Not sure which manufacturers he refers to as interested, Honda makes a 500 twin, Kawi and Suz make 650's and its going to be a one make series.

That will be two races dropped off the schedule and another couple of rungs removed for the hopefulls the guy is a Twat.

Anyway
Badovini is a brave choice.
Sykes will see a lot more of Guintolli and hopefully less of Aprilla team orders, be nice if they left with Max
Rea needs the luck of the Irish and consistency and a better bike
Laverty same but has the bike.
Melandri, I dont like his interpretation of gap but will be up there and he brings his bint.
Congrats to Almeriman on penetrating the lovely Manuela's perfumed forcefield, in retrospect that first statement is wrong and just refers to racing.
Chas Davies I fancy to win a few.
Checa is capable, is Panigale???

Its impossible to call until this years bikes are on the track but if none of the others have made a jump Sykes is the man to beat.
