Hello my fellow Brutes, (SPU - the solid-state fuse box unit)

After significant research on this forum and following all guidance from the zen masters of all things Brute. (e.g. Do the basic checks first !!:stickpoke). I purchased a replacement SPU unit from Vesuvio. :yo:
I was, like similar owners, suffering from spurious electrical issues and can absolutely confirm the replacement has resolved the issues.

My issues: No indicators, no head-light (high and low beam).
Checks:
1. Bulbs
2. Connectors are free and clear from debris/corrosion or other crap - disconnect clear and reconnect ensure correct seating and seal
3. Fuses
Whilst checking fuses - take a note of A800NNNN.....code on the inside of the fuse box cover. (different code for different series Brutes)
4. Order replacement SPU using the correct code

Problem solved - not exactly a $50 replacement part....but if you've melted your SPU (as a result of its original design flaw being that it can over-heat) you may encounter any number of electrical fault combinations (e.g. bike still running with key out, lights flashing, no lights ...you name it).

CAG / Randy / Fazer / Ed - can probably confirm, however the general impression I've established is that this problem was more a an issue with the early series Brutes and not the latter models.

Just wanted to say thanks to the input from various people and summarise my experience :blah:

Cheers

My 2007 910S also had some 'interesting' electrical issues.

It began with all 4 indicators flashing together continuously, even with the ignition off and key out! Even when I had pulled the indicator fuses, the indicator light on the dash continued to flash. Then the headlight began to also flash intermittently.

Just received a new SPU from Vesuvio, plugged it in and all problems instantly gone.

Last year, gremlins nearly got me killed. So the new dealer here kindly fought my corner, and (at long last) with the replacement SPU under warranty, all gremlins promptly disappeared. Nice to know you can get them from Vesuvio, just in case fate comes out with the sequel – "The Return of the Gremlins".

Would you know exactly how much? I see a unit on ebay in the USA/already sold, was a one-of, seller says retail in US @ $350? My local dealer here quoted $950? Think somebody else was talking $550 from Vesuvio? Thanks for any help, Gerard/Gerrygforce
I think they are about $330 euro + shipping from Vesuvio.

a couple of you have commented on my post about issues with my brute. I've been riding it the past 2 weeks in spite of the problems. today at work when i went to move it out of the way of the landscaping people it wouldn't start. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. so I pushed it into the service center, by this time all the display lights decided not to work to. and on a last ditch effort to not order the SPU I pulled the battery and had them put it on the tester/charger. 5.2 volts, hopefully all my issues are resolved after it gets a good charge. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GOD. I don't want to spend 500ish bucks.

You're like me - I didn't want to buy an SPU especially having spent a lot of money on the bike itself. I spent a good week troubleshooting everything. I replaced all the fuses, checked bulbs, new battery, going through all the contacts with compressed air.. You name it, i've tried it.

I finally broke down and ordered a new SPU. While it is not here yet, i'm certain that all my issues will go away with the new unit.

The current issue i'm seeing is that the headlight and high beams don't work. The bike not shutting off issue seemed to have resolved itself a few days later--after letting the bike sit.. But I *cannot* ride the bike knowing that failures loom ahead..

So the verdict is ........................ need a new SPU, fuel pump won't stop priming, :banghead: so now i guess i just have to fix it right and all will be well in the world of my motorcycles:yo: emailed vesuvio as the part i need is not on their website for an 04, hopefully a reply will be had in the near future. So until they get back to me and i get the part there will be lots of:jerkoff:

You can also order from Fast by Ferraci - They are very close to the MV warehouse, and the part is in stock.

I called them and they said it would take 4 days for me to get the part. $370 or so from them.

I actually ended up ordering the part from my local MV dealer.

The only thing that concerned me is when I ordered from vesuvio they didn't have the part on the 2004 page. They emailed me a link which brought me to the 2002 SPU which I ordered, does anyone think this will be a problem?

Do you have the part number they ordered? My bike is an 04 as well.

Mine was Part# 8A00A9615

When I got the box, it had Part# 8A00A9615 V2 (4/10) stamped on it.

I assume the 4/10 is the date. The box is a bit lighter than the original unit and has screws in the back:)

Hmm... That could just be their internal number. From my research it seems the SPU is VIN dependent.

I have read that if you have a specific number VIN you're supposed to get the corresponding SPU.

However, someone on this board has an '05 bike and has the same SPU part number as the one I ordered.

Glad the post and feedback has been beneficial guys.

Stan - as the external fuse covering has the MV part number on the inside...as long as you order that part number - you're all good to go !!!

Shoe - I'd not put my daughter's lives on it....but I will almost guarantee it will !!

So, I just received my special ordered new SPU box, and I am preparing to install it. One thing that I noticed is that the first fuse (labeled "warning light") on my old SPU box has been omitted from the new SPU box. Can anyone shed any light on this obvious difference. Has this been eliminated for a reason? Does this mean that a warning light will not work, or has this circuit has been combined with another circuit on the fuse panel?
Thanks,
Chas
