I just return back from a six month deployment...upon returning the battery was dead...I went and purchased a brand new battery check it at the store to make sure it was fully charged too...plugged it up and the bike started right up...took it out for about a 10 miles ride and while ride the battery light came on and eventually the bike completely died...I jump started it and it turn over but after taking the charge off the bike died again...please help...thanks in advance.

Search this forum for "bike won't start" and "battery".
There is a ton of information.

Most people in this predicament find that they reversed the polarity when putting the new battery in service and have done some fuse and/or diode damage.

The Yuasa battery I fitted to my F4 750 was checked before it was sent out to me that it could hold enough charge, then after I fitted it I put it on a trickle charger over night. This is the sealed factory acid type. Once a bike is running as long as the alternator is functioning it should be fine irrespective of the batteries charged state shouldn't it?

Did you reconnect all the leads up to the battery, with my alarm etc I think each terminal on my batt has at least 3 leads?

MVBert, in your case, probably. In the case of a defunct battery, no. Batteries become massive loads on the system when they fail.

It could just be the Main 40 Amp fuse when it blows while riding you get the light. I have had it happen twice. Bike for some reason drew too much current and killed the fuse. Maybe the battery wasn't fully charged and it drew too much, just my two cents. But I wouldn't start pulling it apart because of a fuse....

I had a dead battery few days ago. Ordered a Shorai Li-Ion battery. It started once or twice but next day it was not there at all; dead. Jump started fine. Got another battery, this time Yuasa which was $185 including the tax. How on earth can be that expensive... It worked just fine. Obviously I had a bad Shorai. Checked all the fuses, starter relay, etc. by the mean time. All were fine. There is a spare 40A fuse on the opposite side of the starter fuse, by the way.

When I killed my diode (flows electricity in one direction) by installing the battery backwards it didn't start. If you were running the bike when you got the light. Which can come on after you blow the 40 amp fuse, I am guessing your batt was dead, you put a large load; fan, lights, and charging a dead batt. You may have just done that. I had it happen a couple of times. Trying charging the batt and checking the fuse. If its never started or could not be bump started then maybe it is the diode. But my money is on just a charge and fuse.
