Hello my fellow Brutes, (SPU - the solid-state fuse box unit)
After significant research on this forum and following all guidance from the zen masters of all things Brute. (e.g. Do the basic checks first !!:stickpoke). I purchased a replacement SPU unit from Vesuvio. :yo:
I was, like similar owners, suffering from spurious electrical issues and can absolutely confirm the replacement has resolved the issues.
My issues: No indicators, no head-light (high and low beam).
Checks:
1. Bulbs
2. Connectors are free and clear from debris/corrosion or other crap - disconnect clear and reconnect ensure correct seating and seal
3. Fuses
Whilst checking fuses - take a note of A800NNNN.....code on the inside of the fuse box cover. (different code for different series Brutes)
4. Order replacement SPU using the correct code
Problem solved - not exactly a $50 replacement part....but if you've melted your SPU (as a result of its original design flaw being that it can over-heat) you may encounter any number of electrical fault combinations (e.g. bike still running with key out, lights flashing, no lights ...you name it).
CAG / Randy / Fazer / Ed - can probably confirm, however the general impression I've established is that this problem was more a an issue with the early series Brutes and not the latter models.
Just wanted to say thanks to the input from various people and summarise my experience :blah:
Cheers
