I have a batch of Stainless Steel Radiator support brackets made to fit twin radiator F4 bikes up to 2009.
These are designed to "unload" de-stress the top left of the radiators which are prone to cracking....How do I know ? ; )
These are easy to fit and doesn't require draining the system..a small fraction of the cost and inconvenience of a break down through radiator failure.
I've posted a bit more detail in the F4 section.
Price posted most destinations in World is £ 23.75 each
Hi Joe, Great idea and solution to an all too common problem. I am about to embark on a road trip taking in Northern Spain, the French Pyrenees, much of France and ending up at the Le Mans 24hr practice day.....I want to minimise any potential problems I may encounter with my F4 and this seems like one of the more likely ones.
I'm not, what you may call a dab hand with working on my F4 but with this rod, can it be fitted with the radiator 'in situ'? I would happily undo a few bolts, slide it in place and re-tighten the bolts again. But if it involves removing the rad, I may have to get a professional to do it.
I am pretty sure it can be done by taking off the side fairings..Dzus fasteners..then undoing the top left bolt on the rad assembly and then slide the rads to the right about half an inch and then the two rads together will slide off the top left bracket. It may be prudent to disconnect the electrical connectors at the rads so that you don't strain the wires.
Then undo the bottom bolt which joins the top left of the bottom rad to the top rad.
It should be possible to squeeze the rads forward enough to get the fitting in.
I'm going to do mine on Tuesday so I'll take some pictures etc..
Joe if you read this please send me payment info for a bracket. The private message does not work for me when I try to send it to you through the forum.
(lost a few items because of this snag with PMs!) Also sent an e-mail.
Thanks!
When fitting please slide over the top grommet first and bolt at bottom last. If you do other way then there is no free play to lift over grommet.
Fit at bottom as per the picture below.
Use a screwdriver to line up the bottom holes so that you don't misalign and cross thread your bolt down there.
Slip a card in between the bracket and the rad top edge when tightening the bolt so that ( bearing in mind it's rubber mounted ) the bracket isn't touching there in use...It's away from the water galleries anyway but I prefer to do this.
I just finished putting my strut on correctly as shown in the above pictures and it fit perfectly. Of course I buggered it up the first time so I had to take it all apart and redo. Follow Joe's directions so you only have to do it once. I used a bit of white lithium grease to help the upper slip over the rubber grommet which made it easy.
Guys, Just a heads up on these brackets which are going out at about one a day.
I also list them on ebay with a strong hint to buy them here on the forum as it is cheaper due to no costs of selling. But I still get members buying them on ebay..
Save your pennies if you buy one and do it from the Forum.
Received my support bracket yesterday. Going to fit it this afternoon, weather is to bad to go for a drive, so I'll stay in my garage today. Thank you Joe!
Joe
Recieved the bracket in a fine Blue Peter tube, remind me please where are the instructions to build the steam train or a space rocket with the tube?opcorn:
