Crash Protection

Hi all

I know this has been asked a few times already but what crash protection will work with the F3?

Could you fit something under the fairing or do you have to go with a larger bung and cut a hole through the fairing? Just wondering what I should do when mine arrives in the near future.

Any advice appreciated! :f4:

I definitely want the following on my bike for crash protection:
1. Front axle sliders
2. Rear axle sliders
3. Frame sliders
4. Engine case cover (probably I'll paint them silver to match the engine color)

I hope R&G, GSG, Sato, GB Racing and others come up with these soon!

Any news on any crash protection accessories? I have been regularly checking the manufacturer websites, but no one seems to be making anything for the F3.

Does anyone know what kind of frame sliders would fit the F3? Will the 2010 (or later) F4 frame sliders fit?

Just back from R&G, bike left for a couple more days for further research to be carried..

Tail tidy and crash bobbins are in the final development. The side crash bobbins will not involve drilling holes in the side fairings, which is good news. Understand that tank side protectors will also be available.
I have seen both pro-types, very impressed by the quality.

Keep an eye on their website as to when the parts will be available

I am going to run this bike for the rest of the season (assuming I ever get one) and during the winter/off season I will worry about the extras and upgrades... I hope that some will become available with time.

Hope this thread isn't too old to re-boot, but there will soon be another option out for the F3.

On my Triumph, I'm very pleased with the crash protection set I have from GB Racing. So I emailed them about the F3, and they're tooling up now. Expect products to launch for the beginning of October, and watch their web site (gbracing.eu)

I looked around a lot and researched all sorts of manufacturers' products before I went with the GB Racing, and they were certainly tops on my list. I can only hope they are as successful with creating something for the F3.

I like GB racing stuff, have it on my track bike. I emailed them 2 months back and they told me that the case covers will be out in few weeks. World Performance Racing has been working with them. for quite some time now.

I read in another thread of the "no cut" sliders being offered by one UK manufacturer. I’m not a big fan of the large knob style sliders, or even the smaller versions. I’ve seen several of them snap off during a crash which meant they saved nothing. I have even seen one fly off a bike at speed, hit the pavement and bounce some 30 - 40 feet into the air. Luckily no one, on or off the track, was hit. The engine bolt broke and this on a street bike that had never been down. Poor design, faulty manufacture, over torqued or all of the above, I don’t know.

I hope Rizoma comes out with a similar slider to those my wife put on her M796. I like their products and think their's is a better design which incorporates the frame rail spreading the load over a larger area instead of concentrating it at the bolt site.

Add case sliders similar to these and I think you'll have the best of both worlds. Great crash protection with stylish good looks.

I agree...the no-cut crash bobbins (aka sliders) are no good. They do break easily in a crash as they have more leverage...not a big fan of those. The no-cut are only good if you tip the bike over when its not moving or is at walking speed. I would rather put a cut slider instead. However, until a decent slider comes out, I would be inclined to put the R&G no-cut sliders for a little extra peace of mind.

Stephen, the Rizomas look great and if they work as you said, then that would be a good combination of form and function. I emailed Rizoma about 2 months back and they informed me that they had no plans to make parts for the F3, dunno if that has changed. They still don't have anything listed on their website specifically for the F3.

On another note, for the rear axle, a F4 axle slider can be used with the F3, as they are the same size. I have put Fastbikes, its a minimalistic design and functions very well.

Screw it...I may take matters into my own hands...a good friend of mine has a cnc milling machine. Just this past weekend we made a sweet mount for a GoPro camera to fit an AR15 quadrail...worked amazingly. I'm positive I can squander something out to match the picks Stephen posted, then just have them anodized black... sounds good to me! Tired of waiting for aftermarket products that may or may not come!!

Well that design didn't work too well...starting to look at another angle. Tried to duplicate the Rizoma sliders pictured above...They looked pretty decent (although they were still in rough aluminum and still needed to be anodized), however in order for them to be functional they had to stick out too far and for me was hitting right inside my knee and made things a little uncomfortable. Need to play around with it a little more.

Forget the frame sliders. They will never work! Lay your bike on its side and see what touches down. Its not the frame sliders. You need to protect your engine covers and tank corners. We are working with a company to produce tank protectors in carbon with kevlar backing and full race bodykits. I will keep you posted.

I don't know what second rate rubbish you guys have been buying, but i've crashed plenty of times with no cut crash bobbins, and everytime they've done their job. I also know plenty of other racers in the same boat.

To me some of those pictured above look far flimsier, and less likely to save anything, than a standard crash bobbin.
