For those following the pervious thread, I thought I'd just start a new one to save you wading through all the posts to get to the good stuff :)

To recap: We were putting MV Moto Corse Ti headers into the F3 - removing cat & adding race ECU.

Headers:

Justin getting to work on it personally aka experimenting  - 50mm hole cut into the muffler BIG THANKS TO ALL THE BOYS AT TROOPER LU'S GARAGE :yo::

Welded up muffler - neat job, very nicely done :yo:

All put together sounds like this (well kind of as you can never truly replicate the sound in a vid but it will help if your turn your volume up as high as it will go ;)) - CLICK HEAR (sic)

It really does sound a million times better - in real life, the garble on the overrun (not everyone's cup of tea but I live for it) is reminiscent of the GP bikes when the electronics kick in. Trust me it is loud!!! :yo:

The bike seems to have lost a touch on the bottom end but boy it seems to have picked it up with loads of interest from just above mid range through to redline.

Before anyone asks - no dyno and am not going to - money is going into another fun stuff instead like say new Barracuda blinkers (Quadros) or GP style levers & of course carbon, and...and ....and............ ;)

Enjoy :)

Cheers Derrick, it's funny when I pull up the lights I look around to see where the noise is coming from - then I realise it's me - I'll get used to it soon enough :)

Sa-weeeet noise! Bet all your neighbours love you.

Take photos of the colour transformations in the Ti. We would love to see those too...
My neighbours are all very familiar with me & my (loud) bikes - if you look at the vid again, you'll see a guy on the right washing his car as I scream past & he doesn't even look up, that's how 'used to it' or more appropriately resigned to their fate my neighbours have become - they've had the dubious pleasure of my company since 1996!

The pipes already have that lovely blue hue happening but the photos looked poor/dark, so I didn't post them. if I get some deceny ones I'll put them up:)

Thanks guys. Basically (robs being the first one) cut up the muffler box into quarters. Much of modern exhasts aree welded internally so you cant just separate them you have to die grind off little tab welds inside etc. We found the wall where I have the screwdriver pointing. What happens is gases go into that chamber - do a 180 deg turn back through that gauze you see and then have to go around another wall behind the gauze to come back to the triple outlet. We left the wall in place as it is a structural part of the muffler but cut a hole in it the same diameter as the header. So now the gasses come into the main chamber and immediately out the hole to the triple pipes. There is baffling at the triple pipes but we decided to leave this in place for some baffling affect as well as bits of the internal muffler. These engines are already low on bottom end so some backpressure is also required for them to run properly. Now we have done it I know exactly where all the welds are and what to do.

The tough part is the re welding !! so it does not look like a dogs breakfast. We werehappy with the result. Bike ran great, nice roll off crackle and really really really sounds the goods.

I was lucky enough to get an f3 oro!!! (it is numbered and has Trooper Lu in the headstock - I had to buy it butwas a special `gift (work that out when I paid) from MV AUs and Italy for the tech assistance and press work we did last year for MV in Aus - so pretty special for me and the only bike I have other then the 1078) anyway we have secured headers for this and I will probably do the same - just taking the grinder to the oro is a tough call!!!!! Yet in saying that trust me - taking a grinder to Robs bike was a tough call also!!! All the staff were watching and you could feel the tension and stress!!! But not a mark on the exhaust and a good result (Thanks Rob for letting us at it and then letting us charge you for it!!!!!) j

Into The Unknown.....

Thank you to everyone for all for the positive comments.

It takes a bit of courage to do something for the first time and especially when you have absolutely no idea of the outcome - there was quite a bit of chatter on here about not buying a first up model, (which I must admit it did fire me up) waiting till the bugs are sorted etc etc but I tell you it is more exhilarating and it makes you feel far more alive when you throw yourself headlong into unchartered waters, the satisfaction is unparalleled. I must confess I had not done this before & was stepping outside my comfort zone. It could have panned out differently but sometimes the ride is far more thrilling than the destination and the learning experience adds value regardless of the outcomes.

Thanks Justin & the whole Team - it was kind of cool when I came in saturday to collect it that the techs & sales guys all came out to see my reaction on start up.

It shows that they really care about their product and client satisfaction - when I LOVED IT immediately you could actually see the collective satisfaction on their faces. I love coming into the shop, if it didn't cost me money EVERY TIME I came there I come in more often

Sincere thanks to Justin for not trying to talk me out of it and trying to get me to follow a safe option but for supporting what I wanted, he knows what I like and for personally overseeing it to make it happen in the best way possible. :yo:

Barracuda blinkers are coming home today if someone doesn't forget the delivery :stickpoke & then we will start with the carbon :naughty:

I really DO love this marque!

 I have an understanding with the neighbours - If they hear a loud bike screaming up the street they won't pull out until the noise subsides :) They're used to it ;)

Great neighbourhood or at least it will be once we move out

For All You Weight Watchers

I know many people here are obsessed with weight savings so here it is:

Normal headers and hardware weigh in at:

Titanium headers weigh in at:

If it was a world championship fight - they would not even be in the same division

Thanks Chris :) I do like the sound of it on the road and it does surprise a few people when I start it up. It goes with spirit of tampering with the exhausts of virtually every bike that we own. :yo: The F4 was the original guinea pig using the original pipes, making them straight through, ceramic coating the headers inside & out, getting rid of the cat adding a PCIII and tuning accordingly- that sounds unique - gave me confidence to try this ;)

Gerwin is asking if anyone else has tried this WITHOUT changing the headers, getting rid of the cat & adding a race ECU. I certainly can't answer that as mine was done & tuned all in one hit. :)

If you are looking for a super smooth well behaved city bike you will be disappointed with the change, if are looking for snarly little beast that you snap on hard keep it wide open, make it bark then shrill (in a good way) then roll off and snap back on hard, it is sharp, you'll love it to bits & pieces (as I do).

Around town it rides like the old strokers when you need the feather the clutch as it simply is not happy doing 30mph in a stop start situation. Having said that, I've ridden through the middle of Sydney in peak hour, lane splitting cars, bouncing the sound of tall buildings & had the biggest smile under my helmet, I even had a couple of cars think :wtf: & move over for me

Most of my riding is open road, twisty stuff at which it truly excels - It depends on you, I wouldn't want you to spend all that money on my say so, shame you are not in my neighbourhood as I would have happily given you the bike to ride & then you'd know for sure :) Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Sounds superb ! We need more ride by's for the full effect !
Thank you :) I'll see what I can do but my lazy camera guy these days is hard to get a hold of - I liked him better when he was 16

NO, not drive bys. We need two guys to follow him in there truck like these fine fellows. But on some higher speed roads and with less laughing. :)

Ha Stephen, Rob is quite a character you should see his bike & car collection - last I was there in March - he had 38 bikes all in better than showroom condition & a few Maseratis, Ferraris & only one Lamborghini (carbon edition Diablo GT)

Only problem doing that with the F3 is that we don't own a car quick enough to stay with it and that includes my old Maserati

BRAVO Gerwin :yo:

I get (understand) the sound, it does not accurately translate on the video (mine is the same) in real life it is a 100 times better.

Great job, sounds great - now there are at least two butchered F3 mufflers going around

Ps. I've got your email, I'll reply later when I get home :)

I understand you had the traction control set on level 6 during the run.

Do you know if that affects the total output? My feeling is that it should not as there shouldn't be any slippage on a flat out run with the bike upright but I could be wrong.

Does anyone else know the answer to this?
