Oil pressure switch

Hey Y'all

My oil pressure switch on the left front bottom of the motor is leaking a copious amount of oil and is shorting out the wire and turning on the warning light. It is leaking where the black plastic meets the aluminum hex. I tried to order a new one but after four weeks it is still a no show. I had one from my 2005 Ducati SS 1000 DS that looked to be the same. The threads are the same so it fits mechanically. It also has the same electrical connector so it fits that way too. Only problem I can see is the pressure reading is .15 bars while the MV one was .5 bars. It works and turns out the low oil pressure light when the motor is running.

The mechanic at the shop said not to worry because if the stock one with the higher pressure came on while I was heading down the road it was too late for the motor anyway. He also said Triumph no longer installs the warning light. I have ridden it this way once for about 180 miles but it still makes me a little nervous.

Any opinions out there?

Same problem on my Brutale 750.
In the first auto parts store I found the oil pressure switch (Opel No. 01/90534902) cost me about ten dollars.
Approximately half of the year and several thousand miles later, still working without problems.

BTW, I think that MV part is 0.3-0.6 bar, and the Opel part is 0.3-0.55 bar, so "Opel" is a much better choice than your "Ducati" with 0.15 bar.

Thanks Miko I will try the NAPA dealer here and see what he can find. When I tried this to replace a Ducati one he had no luck finding it but I did not bring in the part so did not know the pressure ratings. I was told one from a VW beetle would fit. Did you have to cut the wires to make the Opel one fit? I did not see a range on the MV one I pulled it just said .5 bar. I will look again more closely.

Back from the NAPA store and no oil pressure switch. I gave him your part number (Opel No. 01/90534902) but he could not find it. We went through a catalog and found several VM and Audi switches that would bolt up but the electrical connector was oblong rather than round plus they were rated at 1.2-1.6 bars. What part store did you get it from? Any idea of the year and model of Opel it was for?

Ah English supplier. I thought you were in the US when you said $10. No wonder I could not find it at all my regular parts stores. I will wait and see what happened with MV when the shop opens on Tuesday and then figure out what I will do.

Cancel your order and get one from CAG....guaranteed satisfaction.

I made a profile update, but it just did not occur to me that it was important to give someone advice.

"Opel" is the "Opel" no matter how you call it, and parts are generally the same whether the box says "Opel", "Vauxhall", or something else, in the end it is always a "GM" :smoking:

Just a short follow up on this. One I got the used switch from CAG and it works fine and I am back on the road. Second I got a call from the dealer yesterday that the oil pressure switch had arrived and they also got ten crush washers with it. It seems MV is not only slow in filling orders but also in canceling them. The parts guy told me this is very common that once you order something it comes no matter how hard to try to stop it. So FYI the Charlotte MV shop now has one in stock if anyone else needs it.

Thanks, I had a bit of a blonde moment just before posting that question. I've found one here now.

I'll post up the General Motor's part number with the Opel one to help anyone referring to this in the future when I get home.
Thanks

oil pressure switches?

they are pretty much....turn the key off you're done signals
you run down the road at 0.3-0.6 bar, 4-9psi when you should be over 4 bar or 60psi the bottom end is done

match the thread and wire connection and you're good to go

You can add me to the oil sensor list fresh oil change and after 15 mins light comes on at idle was hoping the oil change would make it go away started just before the winter.

is this gm#93190643 what I can use for 2007 f41000r and find local I seen GM Opel just wanted to confirm before I have the parts guy scratching his head

Just left my local dealer gm#93190643 has been discontinued he gave me gm#55581588 said this will replace the previous part number it was out of stock so he let me know that another dealership had it but there closed now I'll grab it tomorrow and post after I confirm that it is in fact a usable part that will work on these bikes

I figured I could find it online the part number he gave me is for the same style it's just an updated version I guess he asked me what bike I was using it for without me telling him and said he owned a Ducati seemed like he knew what he was talking about

G'day All,
Further info for Australian owners. My son came home from work saying that the oil pressure light on his MV was flickering. Didn't seem to be any pattern to it. Whilst he was off chasing girls I removed the switch and connected in a mechanical gauge and the pressure readings was 78 lb/sqin at idle and 100 lb/sqin at about 4,000rpm. All good there. Now the numbers for the pressure switch were not showing up but when researched the numbers were close to a Holden Astra but the switch for them had a 14mm thread. The good parts man at R&E auto did some chasing and found that Tridon TPS074 has a 10 x 1mm thread. Slight difference in the plastic section in that it waists down in the middle and the metal part has a screen filter in the end of it but other than that the plug is the same and it all looks good. Its even made in Italy. Bit dearer than the $9 mentioned here but at $25 the MV is back on the road.

Phelps.
