Fuel Pump Question

Hello everyone,

I haven't been on this forum for quite some years due to having no personal time because of work :conveyer:

The good news is that I still have my SPR but the bad news is that she won't start now :wtf:

I have narrowed down the problem to being the fuel pump not working (applied 12V directly to the pump and impeller didn't run)

My question is could the pump just be so dirty and clogged that it is stuck? The bike has been sitting for the past few years (I start her once every month or so but haven't changed the gas at all)

If the pump could get stuck, is there a way to clean it out? Or am I just going to have to buy a new part?

Thanks in advance!

pump?

outtadaloop;
Bosch pumps are ~$40+ .....
pull your's out and try to free the impeller, its a permanent magnet motor.......sort of brain dead POS
Donsy has posted a pictorial of my suggestion of epoxying the notches in the bottom of the tank that cut the big O-ring

please replace the plastic male quick disconnects with the metal ones from CAG.......don't buy the ***** garbage

PM me a picture of the epoxied fuel tank flange and i'll send you the O-rings for free

beat that:drummer:

go to the auto parts store and buy 12" of SUBMERSIBLE 5/16"/8mm fuel line, the spec is SAE J30R10;
http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=5091&location_id=541

buy a new fuel filter i use WIX #33012

buy a package of JB Weld Kwik epoxy

buy a tube of Permatex Dielectric grease

do you have some Clic-R pliers? for the fuel and water lines?
get some (ebay ~$19)

have you changed the rear well nuts in your air box to rivnuts?
if you epoxy the notches in the tank flange and send me a picture i'll send you M4 rivnuts to fix the problem along with the O-rings

or you can bring your tank and air box over and i'll help you do it and show you how to replumb the internal lines so they're not such a PITA

I replaced most of my small Clic-R clamps with the all-stainless miniature hose clamps from McMaster-Carr. I ordered them online and they work great, providing you get the right size.

When I fitted the new hose to my pump and fuel filter, I discovered I could pull the hoses off the fittings using the Clic-R clamps, something I wasn't comfortable with. Using the miniature clamps from McMaster-Carr eliminated that problem. I'm now 100% positive none of my hoses in the fuel tank can come loose.

I'll just jump in here if you don't mind 'coz I may save someone some grief.

I bought the CPC chrome/brass quick connects when I did my fuel pump and filter, however the rubber o-rings swelled up with our 10% ethanol fuel and the valves didn't open. Took me a while to work this out.
I contacted CPC and they said all their products are shipped with NBR o-rings (nitrile) and will swell with ethanol. They do however do a special run of metal quick-connects for FBF with Viton installed, but FBF are their only viton equipped client.
In my case I made some 1.5 mm shims to open the valves earlier and it actually works fine. The thing is the viton adds $1 of component cost to the product and is simply superior, but I doubt I succeeded in guilt-tripping CPC into taking any notice of my protests.

really?

Well SCRINCH3R;
i just ordered another 600 Buna-N70 O-rings

i give them away......i also have the National O-ring Design Guide (a division of Federal-Mogul) here on my desk......

the recommended #1 material for gasoline is Buna-N
the #2 recommended material for ethanol is Buna-N

Viton doesn't enter the loop......

but then a GREEN Viton O-ring
costs $11.47 at the dealer

and i give them away:stickpoke

mine don't swell, CAG's don't swell

the quick disconnect O-rings are ~$5.40 PER HUNDRED from McMaster-Carr

Hi Noel.
Well in my case the evidence was indesputable, however in your case it appears to be the same - but for the opposite conclusion. Actually we're both happy.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from what you know for certain works for you :stickpoke but Joan Selnes at CPC said this to me in an email "the major issue with using our standard product ..... is that they have Buna-N o-rings in the valves which are not compatible with gasoline"
Go figure

SCRINCH3R;

try here;
http://www.metrogasket.com/o-rings/material_selection_guide.htm

scroll down a ways

most of the material guides are mega big pdf files
like Parkers, ~287 pages fuck that

if you want a picture of the page in Federal-Mogul's National O-ring Design Guide, PM me an email or phone number and i'll send it

bet CPC got shipped Butyl O-rings not Buna-N:stickpoke

they all look the same:naughty:
