Smile Ti Time (Part II - Pics & Sound)

For those following the pervious thread, I thought I'd just start a new one to save you wading through all the posts to get to the good stuff

To recap: We were putting MV Moto Corse Ti headers into the F3 - removing cat & adding race ECU.

Headers:




Justin getting to work on it personally aka experimenting - 50mm hole cut into the muffler BIG THANKS TO ALL THE BOYS AT TROOPER LU'S GARAGE :



Welded up muffler - neat job, very nicely done





All put together sounds like this (well kind of as you can never truly replicate the sound in a vid but it will help if your turn your volume up as high as it will go ) - CLICK HEAR (sic)

It really does sound a million times better - in real life, the garble on the overrun (not everyone's cup of tea but I live for it) is reminiscent of the GP bikes when the electronics kick in. Trust me it is loud!!!

The bike seems to have lost a touch on the bottom end but boy it seems to have picked it up with loads of interest from just above mid range through to redline.

Before anyone asks - no dyno and am not going to - money is going into another fun stuff instead like say new Barracuda blinkers (Quadros) or GP style levers & of course carbon, and...and ....and............

Take photos of the colour transformations in the Ti. We would love to see those too...

Cheers Derrick, it's funny when I pull up the lights I look around to see where the noise is coming from - then I realise it's me - I'll get used to it soon enough

My neighbours are all very familiar with me & my (loud) bikes - if you look at the vid again, you'll see a guy on the right washing his car as I scream past & he doesn't even look up, that's how 'used to it' or more appropriately resigned to their fate my neighbours have become - they've had the dubious pleasure of my company since 1996!

The pipes already have that lovely blue hue happening but the photos looked poor/dark, so I didn't post them. if I get some deceny ones I'll put them up

I bet CC would be proud of that noise and a massive respect goes out to Justin and the lads at Trooper Lu's garage.

That's a lot more modification work involved than simply bolting on a set of Ti down pipes... Well done guys .

Thanks guys. Basically (robs being the first one) cut up the muffler box into quarters. Much of modern exhasts aree welded internally so you cant just separate them you have to die grind off little tab welds inside etc. We found the wall where I have the screwdriver pointing. What happens is gases go into that chamber - do a 180 deg turn back through that gauze you see and then have to go around another wall behind the gauze to come back to the triple outlet. We left the wall in place as it is a structural part of the muffler but cut a hole in it the same diameter as the header. So now the gasses come into the main chamber and immediately out the hole to the triple pipes. There is baffling at the triple pipes but we decided to leave this in place for some baffling affect as well as bits of the internal muffler. These engines are already low on bottom end so some backpressure is also required for them to run properly. Now we have done it I know exactly where all the welds are and what to do.

The tough part is the re welding !! so it does not look like a dogs breakfast. We werehappy with the result. Bike ran great, nice roll off crackle and really really really sounds the goods.

I was lucky enough to get an f3 oro!!! (it is numbered and has Trooper Lu in the headstock - I had to buy it butwas a special `gift (work that out when I paid) from MV AUs and Italy for the tech assistance and press work we did last year for MV in Aus - so pretty special for me and the only bike I have other then the 1078) anyway we have secured headers for this and I will probably do the same - just taking the grinder to the oro is a tough call!!!!! Yet in saying that trust me - taking a grinder to Robs bike was a tough call also!!! All the staff were watching and you could feel the tension and stress!!! But not a mark on the exhaust and a good result (Thanks Rob for letting us at it and then letting us charge you for it!!!!!) j
