Sprag clutch and warranty

Well my sprag has gone after just 1600kms from new. Version 3 being fitted to bike at this time. My question is what happens if it goes again out of warranty? Will MV continue to change for free as there is a problem with sprag or is down to owner to foot costs?

I'm pretty shure it's covered after the warranty is up, don't remember where I read that though..I had mine done a while back, if it becomes a regular problem I might sale it. I think the 2017 models have a updated sprag, might look at buying a new one too...

If your phone isn't ringing..it's probably me!...

Australian consumer law is your / our friend in this case. Well documented history of this problem as well as dealer notices etc to prove it's a known defect.

Faster and Faster untill the fear of death subsides.....

Hi there,

When an item like the sprag fails warranty restarts on that particular item. For example your sprag could still be in warranty when the bike comes out of warranty. Also, if the dealer is notified while the bike is in warranty about the fault, expiry of the warranty does not exonerate the dealer from fixing the fault.

One of the things holding me back from pulling the trigger on one of these things is the sprag clutch.

It should not stop you mate. It's really not that bad. Once diagnosed the dealership had the warrenty approved within the week and parts a further week later. 4 hours work.

My sprag started 'complaining' around the 9000km mark - replaced now with the 12k service done. There are a few work arounds (push starter button, pull clutch in till switch makes and starts turning).

Nothing, i mean NOTHING comes close to a MV.

Okay my 10/2012 F3 675 with 9000km has started showing symptoms of the dreaded sprag clutch issues

It begun by cranking an not firing first time but almost always started 2nd button press then Saturday after stopping for Breakfast at Audley in The Royal National Park which any Sydney sider would know has zero cell phone coverage she would not start enter hot flushes, cold sweats and panic!!

She cranks over really fast but doesn't fire almost like there was not spark, eventually after about 5 minutes of trying each time getting more and more anxious she fired into life

Can some confirm this is the symptoms of a sprag clutch failing and where I stand as far as having it replaced? am I going to have to shell out $$$ for a known fault because the bike is 4 year 7 months old?

Any advise would be great

Sounds just like this... Hence all road point to sprag clutch,

but I'm more than happy for it not to be, any suggestions?

A failing sprag can still turn the engine over. Can just takes ages to start (if it wants to start at the time). One of the sure signs of failure is the accompanying 'clack' sound
